Question about steel trusses and barndominiums. We're looking at building a shade canopy over daughter's RV using steel trusses. But I want to biuld with an eye towards when she doesn't have an RV. So one day we might enclose it and make it a barn... or we may enclose it to make a barndo. If it were to become a barndo, You'd want to hang sheet rock from the trusses... but the company i'm eyeing won't tell me if their trusses will hold the additional weight of sheet rock w/o buying their engineering drawing package.
I can tell ya'll that I went to one of their distributors in NC the other day and they sell 1.5" angle iron based trusses and also square tube trusses. I will absolutely stay away from the angle iron ones.. they are very "flippy" and "twisty". The only strength they have is the perlins holding them in alignment.
So that leaves me with the question.... can a 30ft 4:12 truss made of 1.5" square tubing support sheetrock, or do I need the 2" square tubing?
Anyone in the group here build a barndo that can shed (pun intended) some light on this?

So "Ginger Billy" is settling in. He's strutting around with all hte girl goats in tow like a bunch of groupies. Something I've never heard before... he's barking. not grunting... a bark very much like a dog. He still likesto get his head scratched, but he's gotten aggressive with it. Wife can't stand against his pushing. I had to man handle him yesterday and have a come to Jesus moment with him. It's inocent enough... he just places his head against your hip or ass and stands there asking to be scratched....

We turned a steel rv cover into a lofted barn.. screwed 2x4 flat to stud the walls β¦ our builder used steel 4x4 cemented posted in corners and center walls to level the barn

New way to build a wall. The neighbor living in a shipping container brought his poly iso panels over today to cut them on my panel saw. so we made two 12ft long wall modules. What we did was screw in the first and last stud in the wall, then cut a panel 21.75, then 4 at 22.5 and we compressed the panels with ratchet straps. Then we dropped in the last panel of 21.75" and cut the ratchet straps loose. The poly iso has just enough compressability to make this work.... the panels sprung back to fill all gaps and irregularities. We then aligned all hte intermediate studs on the same plane as the top and bottom plates and screwed them together.

Guys this is a serious issue. Please make sure you have ground bonded your panels together or that the ground bond connections are in good condition.
When we connect solar panels in series the voltage goes up. Sometimes to 450v-600v. The positive and negative wires are NOT connected to the frame of the panel. If you get water inside, one of the silicon wafers inside a panel may contact the frame of the panel. This is called a ground fault.
Here's an example: you have 12 panels connected in series making 480v. the first one has 40v... 2nd 80v.... the 12th one 480v. Now let's imagine that the 11th panel got water in it. The aluminum frame of that panel has 440vdc on it. If it is not grounded to the mounting rails and to the earth, someone could get a nasty and potentially lethal shock if they just touched the frame of that one panel. If you ground bond all the metal frames of all your panels, then no matter which one fails, it will have the same voltage as the earth .... 0v.
