🖥 Time for a Little Confession

🎮 Guilty Pleasure isn’t our first project in game dev
And to be honest, when we started, we thought a visual novel would be the "chill" option
We were like: "Pfft, just draw some pretty art, stitch it together with text, and you’re done. How hard can it be?"

🖕 Yeah… sure...
Now, sitting here reading through the feedback on the latest chapters, we just want to go back in time and knock some sense into our past selves

The plot branching is absolutely insane
And the hardest part? You can’t write a game "like real life"
In real life, if you screw up, you just go to bed miserable. But in a visual novel, every screw-up has to be turned into content

👉 It’s a weird balancing act:
You have to punish players for making poor choices without leaving them high and dry. You need to make them regret their actions while ensuring they still get just as much emotion and story as they would on a "perfect" run.
That tiny detail is probably exactly what separates a bad story from a good one

Long story short: taking this on was a bold move - and a costly one, in terms of every resource we have
But it’s worth it to know that this Sunday, you can pour yourself a cup of tea and spend the evening in our Guilty Pleasure 💗

Throughout development, the visual style of the novel has leveled up significantly. Our artist has found the perfect aesthetic, and now the early art (especially from the first chapters) looks… well, let’s just say, a bit "out of place"

Naturally, we started with him! His sprite was one of the very first assets created, and we’ve been itching to update him for a long time.
Now, justice has been served - he looks exactly the way he should

While finishing the final chapter, we dove into reworking the novel itself:

Originally, they were just meant to break up the text. You play a bit, take a breather, and move on with the story.
But as development went on, we realized something. They’re actually a perfect way to pack in a ton of extra content for you

These minigames will be scattered throughout the visual novel. Beating them will reward you with neat little "bonuses"
We won’t spoil what those are just yet. But trust us, it won’t be boring 😉
