🇺🇦🇸🇪 The delivery of the first Swedish Gripen C/Ds to Ukraine is scheduled for December-January.

Although the C/D versions are technically inferior to the latest E versions—primarily due to the lack of an onboard AESA radar—thanks to the 2014–2016 modernizations, the C/D versions can carry Meteor long-range air-to-air missiles and launch them in silent mode. Subsequently, via a mid-course update system, the Meteors will be guided at distances of over 100km by Swedish Airborne Early Warning and Control (AWACS) aircraft, which are set to be transferred to Ukraine in the near future (if they haven't been received already). This will become a primary headache for Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers and Su-35 fighters, which are actively involved in deploying guided aerial bombs against Ukraine. These bombs are launched from zones where Ukraine's air defense umbrella does not reach—that is, from the operational-tactical depth of the frontline.

It is precisely this operational-tactical rear of the front that the Swedish Saab 340 AEW&C type AWACS will cover with their long-range radar stations, from which Russian aircraft will be detected and subsequently targeted with Meteor air-to-air missiles.
