According to officials, the helipad is needed in order to prevent the VH-92A Patriot, the powerful new presidential helicopter produced by Lockheed Martin that is meant to replace the aging fleet of VH-3D Sea Kings currently used as Marine One, from causing serious damage to the grass on the White House’s South Lawn.
