🇺🇸🇮🇷U.S. Secretary of State Rubio explains that Iran's plan was to build an arsenal of drones and missiles to dissuade nations from attacking them as they build a nuclear weapon.

"The whole world is seeing that Iran was building up a conventional capability where they would have so many missiles and so many drones that they could overwhelm anybody's defences.

Once they had that, nobody could do anything about their nuclear programme. Because they would say, if you attack our nuclear programme, we will wipe out six countries in the Gulf region and you won't be able to defend against it.

You won't have enough Patriot systems, because you get these swarms of drones, these swarms of rockets. They were on the verge, and a year from now, they would have been at that point.

The president said that's an intolerable risk.
People are struggling to make that connection, but the connection is very real.

They were building such a high number. They were going to have so many drones and missiles that no one can attack Iran because the result would be catastrophic for the region.

And once they had that immunity, then they would break out towards a weapon. We knew that. The president's not going to allow that to happen under his watch."

Rubio: "Yes. It is both our main geopolitical challenge and the most important relationship we have to manage.

I mean, it is a large and powerful country. It will continue to grow, but we will have interests that conflict with theirs. To avoid wars and maintain peace and stability in the world, we will have to manage this relationship.

There are obvious areas that are so important to the United States that we will have to raise these issues and will continue to do so in the future. The President will also continue this. There may be some areas of cooperation, and we want to make sure we do not give those up."

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio explains why it is in China's interest to pressure Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz:

"We have presented arguments to China and hope they are convincing. They will have a chance to take some action on this at the United Nations later this week when a resolution condemning Iran's actions regarding the straits is presented.

Look, there are three points here. First: Chinese ships are stuck in the Persian Gulf because creating a system that says we will allow certain ships to pass and not others is easier said than done. You saw that over the past weekend a ship was hit, which, although not flying the Chinese flag, was carrying Chinese cargo. I'm sure Iran did not do this intentionally, but it happened. That is why Chinese ships are stuck there.

Second: The threat of destabilization in Asia. This threatens Asia more than any other part of the world because it largely depends on these straits for energy supply.

The third reason is that China's economy is export-oriented. This means their economy is fueled not by domestic consumption but by what they produce and sell to other countries. When the economies of countries around the world collapse due to the crisis in the straits, they will buy less Chinese products, and Chinese exports will sharply decline.

So, resolving this issue is in their interest. We hope to convince them to play a more active role in getting Iran to stop what it is doing now and trying to do in the Persian Gulf."

This concerns the 2nd Armored Brigade of the 1st Cavalry Division, whose deployment on NATO's eastern flank was announced for early May.

According to Defense News, officials have not publicly stated the reason for the cancellation, but behind-the-scenes information links the decision to a significant budget shortfall in the Army.

It is noteworthy that the brigade had already completed preparatory work, and part of the personnel and equipment was already on the way to Poland.

This would mark the largest single arms transfer from the U.S. to Taiwan, which is critically significant for the island as its defense relies heavily on U.S. military support. According to reports, the second, smaller package, which covers general defense assets, is also ready for Trump's approval.
While some members of Congress urged Trump to approve the $14 billion package prior to his trip to China to avoid making it a discussion point, it is now expected that these deals will be used as "bargaining chips" during the negotiations.

Notably, according to Chinese media, during the ongoing talks in Beijing, Xi Jinping told Donald Trump that failure to reach an agreement on the Taiwan issue could lead to confrontation and even conflict between the two nations, placing the entire relationship in great jeopardy. Xi emphasized that "Taiwan independence" and peace in the Strait are as incompatible as "fire and water."
