Trump on the Iranian leadership: "They're very dishonorable people, the leadership. They just change their mind. I've had that in business many times. These people, you make a deal, and then they send you a document that takes five days to get there when it should've been there in 20 minutes."

🇺🇦🇷🇺 For the first time in nearly three years, the initiative in the war appears to be shifting toward Ukraine, The Economist reports.

The publication writes that the weakened May 9 parade in Moscow became a symbol of Russia’s vulnerability to Ukrainian long-range strikes. After a difficult winter, Ukraine has managed to regain the initiative and is increasingly exhausting Russia — both on the battlefield and through strikes deep behind the front lines.

▪️According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian forces in April lost more territory than they captured for the first time since August 2024. Reasons cited for Ukraine’s recent successes include counterattacks on the ground, medium-range strikes, Russian logistical problems, restrictions on Russian use of Starlink, and Ukraine’s growing drone advantage.

▪️Until last year, the ratio of Russian soldiers killed to wounded was estimated at between 1:2 and 1:3. In March, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia was now losing nearly two soldiers killed for every one wounded.

▪️The Economist notes that up to 80% of Russian casualties are now caused by FPV drones. Russian troops reportedly complain that new Ukrainian drones cannot be heard until the moment of impact and are better at bypassing electronic warfare systems.

▪️The head of one Russian drone development center previously admitted that Russia had “lost leadership” in drone warfare and was facing major logistical problems near the front. According to him, up to 90% of losses among Russian drone teams occur while moving between positions. Russia has even restricted convoy movements in the Donetsk region as a result.

▪️The publication also says the drone “kill zone” now extends up to 20 kilometers and is increasingly shifting deeper into Russian rear areas. This affects Russian operations more heavily than Ukrainian ones because Russian forces are more dependent on offensive actions. In addition, Ukrainians place greater value on preserving soldiers’ lives and therefore make wider use of unmanned ground vehicles for supply and evacuation missions.

▪️In March, Ukraine surpassed Russia for the first time in the number of long-range drone attacks. Around 70% of Russia’s population now lives within the range of Ukrainian UAVs.

▪️The Economist also reports that Ukraine is now intercepting around 95% of Shahed drones using new interceptor drones, while Russia is developing its own equivalents at a much slower pace.

🇺🇸🇫🇷🇮🇷 Here is the current locations (approximate) of the aircraft carriers currently deployed around the Middle-East.

The USS Gerald R. Ford crossed one last time the strait of Gibraltar last week and is coming back after a month at sea. Despite her impressive journey she never entered the Indian Ocean.

The French Navy aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle entered the Red Sea last week. She is now off the coast of Djibouti and is expected to remain in the area as long as the stalemate between the US and Iran holds.

The USS Abraham Lincoln remains off the coast of Oman to enforce the blockade against Iran. She was joined by the USS George H. W. Bush after she bypassed Africa from the south.

In the future we can expect the Lincoln CSG to return to base, then the Charles de Gaulle CSG. The later may be relieved by a Royal Navy carrier group in the summer.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 President Trump is meeting with his national security team today to discuss next steps in the Iran war, including possible renewed military action, after negotiations with Iran deadlocked Sunday, according to Axios.

➡️ Options include restarting “Project Freedom,” the suspended U.S. naval escort operation in the Strait of Hormuz, or resuming airstrikes against the remaining 25% of Iranian targets identified by the U.S. military.

➡️ Israel is also pushing for a special forces mission to secure Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, though Trump is said to view the idea as highly risky.

Two U.S. officials said Trump is leaning toward action to increase pressure on Tehran. “He will tune them up a bit,” one official said, while another added: “I think we all know where this is going.”

Officials added that they don't think Trump would order military action against Iran before he returns from China.

Trump, "Do not assume you can exploit the current calm in Iran and march victoriously to Beijing." First of all, learn the alphabet of the new geopolitical order in the Middle East. We defeated you on the battlefield; do not imagine you will come out victorious in the diplomatic arena."

REPORTER: For the time being, the ceasefire [with Iran] is in place?

US PRESIDENT TRUMP: It's unbelievably weak, I would say... Right now, after reading that piece of garbage they sent us... I would say the ceasefire is on massive life support, when the doctor walks in and says: 'sir, your loved one has approximately a 1% chance of living.'

RT @nik0p0l5: Year 4 of war Russiaboo still believing in hidden army in Urals is frankly just this https://twitter.com/nik0p0l5/status/2053879389041881186/photo/1

This verbiage means Russia is getting ready to finish the job and conduct a major offensive, possibly in Zaporizhzhia.

The day before the invasion, Putin said the troops were returning from an exercise and going back to Russia. If Putin days zig, expect zag.

They have clearly been withholding and amassing forces for some purpose.
