During Operation Epic Fury, Iraqi citizens near the Najaf Desert reported jets and troop carrying helicopters overhead.
Many assumed the U.S. or Israel was arming Kurdish forces for a ground invasion at the time.
That was not the case. It has now been confirmed that Israel operated a makeshift airstrip in the Iraqi desert, used for strike launches, aircraft redeployment, and staging operations. Those with knowledge of the movement stayed silent at the time for opsec reasons.
The information is now public.

The Lebanese Army arrested an Iraqi delivery worker who spent months posing as a senior Iraqi military officer on Lebanese soil. Using forged documents and a colonel's uniform, the man claimed to be the Iraqi embassy's security chief in Beirut and told Shia community figures he belonged to Asaib Ahl al-Haq, one of Iraq's largest pro-Iranian militias.
He built ties with officers across Lebanon's security agencies, extracted financial-security intelligence, attended official functions, and met personally with Gen. Edgar Lahoud, head of State Security, his deputy Murshid Suleiman, senior officer Mohammad Murtada, and Gen. Hassan Shqair, head of General Security. Lahoud posed for a photo with him without suspecting a thing.
Al-Hurra reports that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun ordered the investigation after the arrest triggered an angry call from Lahoud to the intelligence chief.
A similar case emerged months ago when a Lebanese man was caught impersonating a Saudi prince to cultivate senior Sunni politicians.
