Following reports that two U.S. soldiers went missing while participating in exercise African Lion 2026 in Morocco, CBS has received additional information on the matter. Per the report, citing defense officials, the two soldiers went for a hike to watch the sunset when one fell into the water and the second jumped in to save them near the Cap Draa Training Area. Before the second soldier jumped in, soldiers attempted to form a human chain which was unsuccessful, prompting the second to leap to the first’s aid. As both began to struggle against the waves, a third soldier jumped in and was unable to save them, and was forced to return to land. The search for the missing two soldiers continued today, per the report, utilizing drones, vessels, divers and aircraft.

Ukrainian strikes with domestic-produced FP-5 Flamingo long-range cruise missiles hit the building of the VNIIR-Progress research and development institute located in the Russian city Cheboksary, Republic of Chuvashia, around 900km from the border with Ukraine.

VNIIR-Progress is a leading Russian developer, manufacturer, and supplier of relay protection and automation systems; automated process control systems (APCS); electronic modules; and electrical and radio-electronic products.

One of its main products is the jamming-resistant "Kometa" navigation module for Shahed/Geran-type long-range OWA UAVs, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles.

According to CBS, citing defense officials speaking on condition of anonymity, the USS Truxtun (DDG-103) and USS Mason (DDG-87) transited the Strait of Hormuz today into the Persian Gulf under constant threat from Iranian fires. Per the report, both destroyers transited while being targeted by Iranian drones, missiles, and small fast-attack craft during the transit. They were supported by Apache helicopters and other aircraft throughout the barrage of Iranian attacks. Additionally, per the report, no projectiles struck the ships during the engagement.
