According to the IRGC-affiliated news outlet Tasnim, Iran has provided Pakistani mediators with a 14-point counter proposal to be presented to U.S. decision-makers. Per the report, much of the Iranian demands remain the same, including guarantees that combat operations against Iran will not resume, the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the local region, the cessation of the ongoing U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, releasing frozen Iranian assets, the end of the Israel-Lebanon conflict, and reparations.

Lots and lots of missiles. Absolutely spot on

Good thread, though I am somewhat less pessimistic about what this means for Germany and Europe.

The number of all-up rounds deployed as part of MDTF to Europe was always going to be low, as was the salvo size generated by the associated strike capabilities. They would no doubt have been useful for warfighting, but the overall operational impact would have been limited.

What Germany and other European governments had really hoped for was that this would constitute some form of escalation management tool, capable of holding sensitive Russian targets at risk. Whether the United States would have been willing to use them in that way was always questionable.

In the end, there is no alternative to a European solution for Europe, independent of American presidential decision-making (whether it should also be independent of NATO command structures going forward is a question European states will have to settle in the near future).

On the kill chain: yes, Germany and Europe need to invest across the board. But Germany's investments in ISR, particularly in space-based systems, are largely satisfactory in my view. With the SPOCK 1 constellation, Germany will achieve ~40 to 60-minute revisit rates over the Baltic theater by 2028 -- that's good enough for Germany's needs.

What Germany and Europe need are missiles, missiles, and more missiles.

Not a chance. Russia needs isolation, decay and division.

@jalle51 After Putin, Russian needs to join the EU and NATO under the condition of 10 years of change: democracy and free markets.
In this way we can much faster help Russia to recover and to pay back for Putin's craziness in Ukraine.

I have worked with @DanDePetris and have huge respect for him. we don’t always agree or see eye to eye, but he is absolutely correct. All the pearl clutching is drama from both sides. Its irrelevant.

That Trump would withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany because Merz hurt his feelings is silly, if not pathetic.

That people are panicking over this very small drawdown and acting like it will open up the route to a Russian blitzkrieg is also silly, if not pathetic.

RT @sentdefender: Germany hosts over 36,000 American Servicemembers, along with nearly 1,500 reservists and 11,500 civilian employees with the U.S. Department of Defense, according to the latest figures from last December. Additionally, Germany is home to the Headquarters of U.S. European Command (EUCOM) and Africa Command (AFRICOM), and its Ramstein Air Base is a key hub for U.S. operations, including recent military operations against Iran. Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, the largest U.S. military hospital abroad is also located in Germany and has been used to care for dozens of Americans injured in strikes during the Iran War.

Reporter: In your letter to Congress, you said that hostilities with Iran have been terminated. How can you say that with the naval blockade still in place?

U.S. President Donald Trump: "Well, it’s a very friendly blockade. Nobody’s even challenging it. Nobody at all is challenging.

Just so you understand, many presidents have been involved in things that are very big. They never had to go through anything with respect to Congress. They considered it to be totally unconstitutional.

And the Democrats in Congress that pushed this, and probably a couple of Republicans, they’re hurting our negotiating ability, which is infinite right now. And they shouldn’t be doing it. It’s never happened before. No other president’s done it. And I’m not going to be the first."
