The U.S. Department of the Treasury sent a letter to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Hong Kong, China, and Oman advising them of banks within their jurisdiction that have allowed, potentiated, and benefited from Iranian illicit activity and asked them to take swift action against them and cease these activities. The letter, shared by Al-Monitor’s diplomatic correspondent Elizabeth Hagedorn, is the latest in a slew of Treasury actions relating to Iran.

Sen. Bernie Sanders: "The Wall Street Journal reported recently that Jeff Bezos wants to raise $100 billion to automate factories in America and around the world. In English, you know what that means? It means there will no longer be manufacturing jobs in the United States, or in warehouses. He wants to get rid of the 600,000 Amazon workers and replace them with robots."

I’m glad Israel and Lebanon are sitting down. That’s an important first step.
But I have some questions:
Hezbollah isn’t some rogue outside militia Lebanon is fighting. It’s part of the Lebanese political system. For over 20 years, Lebanon has tried to disarm them and failed completely.
Even the claim that Hezbollah was disarmed by Lebanon south of the Litani was a fake. Everyone knew it.
So what exactly are we negotiating?
Without real disarmament, this isn’t peace. It’s a pause. A few years for Hezbollah to rearm, regroup, and reset.
Diplomacy with a government that has a powerful terror army it cannot control may end up masking Hezbollah rearming.
Especially if Israel and the Lebanese army cannot coordinate, which is the likely case.
And even if they try, it risks pushing Lebanon toward civil war.
At the end of the day, real disarmament will only happen in one of two ways. Either Israel degrades Hezbollah to that point militarily, or Lebanon goes through internal collapse to remove it, aka civil war.
Neither is clean. But pretending a signed agreement changes reality is how you end up right back here.
I hope I’m wrong. Tell me how.

Our relations have now reached the level of a true strategic partnership. If Iran drags this out, the current war runs into a hard deadline. Under the War Powers Resolution, Trump can’t legally continue military operations in Iran past 60 days without Congress. But he may try to redefine the operation to reset the clock if push comes to shove.

Under the War Powers Act of 1973, presidents must terminate military operations after 60 days unless Congress has voted to declare war or passed legislation to authorize the use of force. https://time.com/article/2026/04/14/republicans-face-crucial-test-on-iran-war-as-60-day-deadline-looms/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=editorial&utm_content=140426 - TIMEtweet
