WHEN TO SHIFT TO PRELIMS?
3 Cases are possible.
Case 1. Almost beginner, only read basic books like laxmikant once twice. Shift IMMEDIATELY!!
Case 2. Average with static, remember 40% of basic books, shift from MID JANUARY.
Case 3. Good with Static, remember nearly 60% basic books, shift from MID FEBRUARY OR MARCH.
Current affairs is a myth. It is easily manageable in 15-20 days, if you are good with static. Don't fall into the trap of prelims experts of preparing for prelims for 5-6 months and Reading bogus content/material which is NEITHER relevant for next Prelims NOR for mains.
Our focus is only selection and nothing else. And selection comes from Mains and Interview. So, whatever action we do should help us in that. SO, FOLLOW A MIDDLE PATH, which gets you enough skilled to pass prelims and simultaneously clear mains also. No single focus on either side only.
Good Luck

Parkinson's Law: Work expands to fill time allocated to it.
Giving 6-7 months to prelims does not mean you will be efficient. More time you have, more time you will either
1. Waste in irrelevant things
2. Waste in reading content which is neither beneficial for next Prelims nor upcoming mains.
Always remember:
EFFICIENCY > SLOGGING.
That's why talks like Pareto Optimisation exist in the world.

What is the meaning of
Efficiency > Slogging?
What is Pareto Optimisation?
Abraham Lincoln once said,
"Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the ax"
This statement beautifully summarises this exam. If slogging 10 hours a day was meant for this exam, then people would not fail prelims/mains repeatedly(5 times 6 times etc).
This exam needs USE OF BOTH, Mind And Hand. But the hand will work efficiently ONLY IF, mind has done its job. Fundamentally, OUR JOB at NFU is to get your mind at work!!!
