Indian Army Jawan, Lance Naik Rajasekhar, lost his life during a rafting training exercise on the Teesta River.
Following a search and recovery operation by the Indian Army, Rajasekhar's body was handed over to the Rangpo police for a post-mortem examination.
The incident happened on Monday in West Bengal, between the Rangpo mining area and Tarkhola. The raft capsized after getting entangled with submerged iron structures from a damaged bridge, a remnant of past flooding.

Jawan: Lance Naik Rajasekhar, belonging to the 191 Artillery Regiment of the 33 "Trishakti" Corps. He was stationed at the Bengdubi military station near Siliguri.
Location: The accident took place on the Teesta River near Tar Khola, which lies on the border between Sikkim and West Bengal (Kalimpong district).
The jawan was part of a 16-member team conducting an annual rafting training program. While navigating the river between Bardang and Rangpo, their raft struck submerged iron structures—remnants of a bridge that had collapsed during the catastrophic October 2023 Sikkim floods.

With these arrests, the total number of accused held in the case has risen to five.
