IndiGo cancelled 300+ flights in two days, adding to 1,232 cancellations in November, after new pilot duty-time norms triggered a severe crew shortage. The airline admitted it had miscalculated pilot needs, leaving flights without crews.

Across Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad, passengers reported chaos, poor communication, missing staff and no assistance as gates changed without notice and cancellations came last minute.

The crisis has renewed scrutiny of IndiGo’s crew-exploitation practices lean staffing, overworked pilots and tight rosters, which pilot bodies say made IndiGo buckle faster than rivals.

The airline has sought a temporary exemption from night-duty limits till Feb 2026 to rebuild rosters and hire pilots. Regulators have demanded a recovery plan and are monitoring closely.
