Under the UAPA framework, the investigating agency can have up to 180 days to complete investigation while accused remains in custody, subject to the statutory process.
If the requisite chargesheet is not filed within the applicable period, the accused can seek statutory/default bail. In the present case, the statutory period of 180 days of judicial custody was getting over on 8 September 2026.
By this stage, the offences under the Immigration and Foreigners Act had already been fully established. The NIA therefore filed a chargesheet for those offences rather than allow the statutory period to expire.
This should not be confused with closure of the larger investigation. Importantly, the chargesheet itself records that investigation under the UAPA continues.
Therefore, the fact that UAPA provisions are not part of the present IFA chargesheet does not mean that the UAPA investigation has been withdrawn, abandoned or closed.

From 11 September 2026, 01:30 UTC to 13 September 2026, 17:30 UTC, special security rules will apply due to the BRICS Summit—
♦️No take-offs or landings are allowed at Indira Gandhi International Airport and any other airports within a 300 km radius of Delhi.
Only the following flights are permitted—
🔻Normal scheduled airline flights
🔻Special flights for BRICS Summit dignitaries and their related flights (flight plans must be approved in advance by ATC; these will be treated as scheduled flights)
🔻IAF, BSF, and Aviation Research Centre flights
🔻Army helicopters undertaking quick response or emergency medical evacuation missions
🔻State government aircraft/helicopters carrying a Governor or CM
🔻Regular scheduled flights (and overflights) can still fly over the 300 km zone on normal routes but with height restrictions.
🔻Safdarjung Airport (VIDD) will remain closed, except for IAF helicopters on emergency/VIP duty and certain BSF/IAF helicopters used by the NSG.
🔻Rohini Helipad will remain fully closed.
