Two-Thirds of Indians Have SARS-CoV-2 Antibodies, Survey Suggests

🇮🇳@COVID19Up: Two-thirds of India's population have antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, according to data released on Tuesday from a survey of 29,000 people across the nation conducted in June and July.

The fourth national blood serum survey which tests for antibodies, known as a sero survey, included 8,691 children aged 6-17 years for the first time. Half of them were seropositive.

The survey showed 67.6% of adults were seropositive, while more than 62% of adults were unvaccinated. As of July, just over 8% of eligible adult Indians had received two vaccine doses.

India's COVID-19 Death Toll Could Be Way Higher Than Official Tally

🇮🇳@COVID19Up: India's excess deaths, a count of the number of people who have died in excess as compared to the numbers recorded in the same period in previous years, could be 10 times higher than the official death toll, one of the most comprehensive studies shows.

The study, published by Arvind Subramanian, the Indian government's former chief adviser, and two other researchers, shows that the number of people who died in excess between January 2020 and June 2021 could be between 3 million and 4.7 million.

India's official COVID-19 death toll is only 414,000.

Health Official Orders Australians: "Don’t Have a Conversation" With Each Other — Even If Wearing Mask

🇦🇺@COVID19Up: The top health official of New South Wales, Dr. Kerry Chant, gave a press conference telling Australians that even if they’re wearing masks, they shouldn’t “engage in conversation with each other" in order to reduce the transmission of SARS-CoV-2.

“Whilst it’s human nature to engage in conversation with others, to be friendly, unfortunately this is not the time to do that,” she said.

“So even if you run into your next door neighbor in the shopping center…don’t start up a conversation, now is the time for minimizing your interactions with others, even if you’ve got a mask, do not think that affords total protection, we wanna be absolutely sure that as we go about our daily lives we do not come into contact with anyone else that would pose a risk,” Chant added.

DownDetector.com showed a sharp and simultaneous spike in outage reports for travel, retail, financial and gaming websites globally.

Oracle's Cloud Infrastructure website indicated the service was experiencing an ongoing issue, though it was not immediately clear if the outages were related. Akamai also reported a problem with its service as well.
