🇱🇧🇮🇱 Still trapped in Iran quagmire, Israel launches murder spree in Lebanon

👉 The IDF’s campaign of air and artillery strikes against Lebanon aren’t even a day old, but Israel media are already reporting on a possible ground offensive in which “any politician or military figure in Hezbollah and even its supporters” will be targeted.

Here’s how things escalated:

🌏 Shortly after midnight Monday: Hezbollah launches missiles and drones against military facilities in northern Israel in response to Khamenei’s murder, and weekend IDF strikes in southern Lebanon.

🌏 Israel demands the evacuation of 50+ villages in southern Lebanon, warning that “anyone near Hezbollah members, facilities or combat equipment” would be “putting their life at risk.”

🌏 Israel launches vicious air strikes in Al-Bazuriya, Tyre, and Beirut. Lebanon’s Health Ministry reports 31 deaths and nearly 150 injuries before 8 am.

🌏 Footage from Tyre shows that Israeli warplanes appear to have destroyed an entire residential block.

🌏 The US orders Americans to leave Lebanon immediately.

🌏 IDF chief of staff Eyal Zamir announces “an offensive campaign against Hezbollah,” calling for preparations “for many prolonged days of combat ahead.”

🌏 Israeli defense minister Israel Katz declares Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem a “marked target for elimination,” warning that whoever “follows” Khamenei’s path “will soon find himself together with him in the depths of hell.”

🌏 Israel mobilizes 100k reservists, on top of 50k already deployed, to “reinforce” positions in and around occupied Lebanon and Syria, Gaza, and the West Bank.

🌏 Israel conveys to Lebanon’s government via Cyprus that it will target Lebanon’s major civilian infrastructure, including its sole airport, seaports and other sites. Lebanon orders Hezbollah to lay down its arms (having previously avoided doing so out of fears of a new civil war).

🌏 Israel claims its attacks have already killed Hezbollah intel HQ chief Hussein Makled. Mohammad Raad, the head of the group’s parliamentary bloc, was also murdered, per reports.
