If you look at leading scientific publications such as those from PETS, you’ll see that:

- Signal’s “sealed sender security” is broken and bogus (Martiny et al, 2021: https://cs-people.bu.edu/kaptchuk/publications/ndss21.pdf)

- Signal has regressed in terms of deniability: eprint.iacr.org/2024/741 (+upcoming work) - Signal’s group chat benefits from lesser security guarantees: eprint.iacr.org/2017/713.pdf

- Signal’s tying of usernames to phone numbers is a slap in the face for those expecting real pseudonymity from the Signal service and continues to be unaddressed,

- Signal’s desktop client does not detect when a state has been cloned and allows for two independent devices to masquerade and authenticate as the same device,

- Signal’s use of SGX is more opaque than it could be,

But of course, all of the above and more are not something that can be brought up in polite conversation, because Signal’s own leadership has poisoned the discourse with politics and by encouraging an in-group thinking dynamic with regards to Signal.

❗️Israel bans the film 'No Other Land' from being screened. The Documentary Forum in Israel released the following statement:

"Dear Managers and Heads of Institutions,

Last week, the film No Other Land won the American Academy Award (Oscar).

Following this, the Minister of Culture called on cultural institutions not to screen the film.

The Documentary Forum strongly opposes the minister's attempt to dictate content and determine which content will be shown in institutions funded by the ministry. Public funds come from taxpayer money, and the institutions we have built are democratic cultural institutions. They must not be used as a tool of control by the ministry. Culture is valuable content presented to Israeli citizens in the institutions they support through taxes.

The Documentary Forum calls on every cultural institution to screen the film without fear. There is no doubt that the film is a matter of public interest, and the public has the right to watch it. Therefore, cultural institutions and cinemas exist to present diverse and independent cultural content.

We turn to you with a request to demonstrate public and solidarity responsibility with the creators and screen No Other Land to allow its exposure to the Israeli audience, regardless of any political stance, whether in agreement or opposition.

We call on you to maintain the independence of cultural institutions in Israel, screen this film and others like it that spark discussion and thought. We stand against attempts to silence and censor artistic and journalistic creation, recognizing your essential cultural, ethical, and democratic role in preserving freedom of expression, which is the very soul of culture."

Matthew: Back in 2003, Lee Holloway and I started Project Honey Pot as an open-source project to track online fraud and abuse. The Project allowed anyone with a website to install a piece of code and track hackers and spammers.
We ran it as a hobby and didn't think much about it until, in 2008, the Department of Homeland Security called and said, "Do you have any idea how valuable the data you have is?" That started us thinking about how we could effectively deploy the data from Project Honey Pot, as well as other sources, in order to protect websites online. That turned into the initial impetus for CloudFlare.

But wait, if Cloudflare is directing your website queries, then can't it collect your browsing history for itself? Actually, they're not going to keep that data at all, Prince said.
"At no time will we record the list of where everyone is going online," Prince said. "That's creepy."
Cloudflare is working with third-party auditors at KPMG to examine their systems and guarantee they're not actually collecting your data. That privacy commitment, Prince said, is what separates Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 from other DNS services that are free and open to the public.

"It's a great thing that they're coming out of the gate and being up front about that," Shey said. Still, she added, "You're kind of taking what they're saying at face value."

⭕️ Update | Deadly clashes escalate on Syrian coast as HTS-led government forces battle armed groups associated with former Syrian army

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), intense clashes continue to ravage Latakia, Tartous, and Jableh, with at least 71 people killed since the start of a large-scale 'security campaign' launched by HTS-forces.

Among the dead are 35 members of the HTS-led Ministry of Defense and Interior Affairs, 32 former Syrian Arab Army (SAA) fighters, and 4 civilians, with dozens more injured or missing.

The Ministry of Defense and Interior Affairs has deployed reinforcements from Idlib, Aleppo, and Hama, regaining control of Jableh while encountering fierce guerrilla attacks from gunmen entrenched in Latakia’s mountains and Jableh’s urban centers.

Meanwhile, military convoys have set ambush positions on the Tartus-Homs and Baniyas-Jableh highways, as reports emerge of executions of captured fighters on both sides. Russian forces stationed at Hmeimim Air Base have reportedly accepted the surrender of dozens of security personnel, while the general security service has imposed a 24-hour curfew across Latakia, Tartus, and Homs as the situation remains volatile.
