This is incredible. Sa'ada was (at least early in the Saudi aggression) the most heavily targeted area of Yemen, especially by US-manufactured cluster bombs. Yet, today, this defiance...

Those of us who early on called out the BS around Covid mandates (lockdowns, social distancing, masks...) were predictably denigrated as "conspiracy theorists" (including by some who posture as critical thinkers). Ofc, no apologies will ever follow, even when the policies are finally admitted to be nonsensical. 🤔 🙄😵‍💫
"Omission is a key element of propaganda. Two stark examples:

1) BBC, Sky etc live stream Israel’s defence, but not South Africa’s prosecution.

2) No reporting of Yemen’s declared position that it’s acts are motivated by a desire to stop the war on Gaza & will end when it does."

Hi Robin,
I hope you're well. I saw the following comment on YouTube, which I think is a great concise summary of Israel's nonsense defence. I'm sure the poster won't mind you reposting on your channel.

Summary of Israel's arguments.
1. The word genocide came about because of Jews - therefore we can’t be committing genocide.
2. South Africa didn’t notify us of this in the correct order.
3. Don’t take any notice of the public statements from our leaders alluding to genocide, we promise, behind closed doors we ask that civilians be protected.
4. Look at this nice statement from our PM that he conveniently released yesterday saying we don’t want to hurt civilians.
5. We had to bomb civilian infrastructure because Hamas was there. (No mention of guided vs dumb bombs being used)
6. We dropped flyers and social media posts saying to evacuate (no mention that areas people were told to evacuate to were also bombed or that no power meant social media useless)
7. Conveniently, between being notified of this case and today we have started letting some aid into Gaza.

🚨 BREAKING: Gonzalo Lira Has Died in Ukraine

"Confirmed by his family. I disagreed with him on just about everything. He shouldn't have died in a Ukrainian jail though."
— The Grayzone's Kit Klarenberg

"I cannot accept the way my son has died. He was tortured, extorted, incommunicado for 8 months and 11 days and the US Embassy did nothing to help my son. The responsibility of this tragedy is the dictator Zelensky with the concurrence of a senile American President, Joe Biden," Gonzalo's father wrote.

Chilean-American blogger Gonzalo Lira died in a Ukrainian prison, his family announced on Friday.

"I cannot accept the way my son died. He was tortured, blackmailed, detained for 8 months and 11 days and the US Embassy did nothing to help my son. The dictator Zelensky is responsible for the tragedy, with the connivance of a senile American president, Joe Biden," wrote his father, Gonzalo Lira Sr., in a memo published by The Grayzone.

Lira Sr. confirmed to Tucker Carlson her son's death in Ukrainian captivity.

Lira, 55, used to live in Kharkiv and blog under the name “CoachRedPill,” but switched to YouTube commentary after the escalation of the conflict with Russia in February 2022. The Ukrainian Security Service (SzBU) arrested him last May and accused him of "discrediting" the Ukrainian leadership and the army.
At the end of July, Lira resurfaced on X (formerly Twitter) with a series of posts in which he revealed the torture he suffered in prison and the fact that the SzBU tried to blackmail him with money.

Two days later, a source confirmed to the press that Lyra had been captured and imprisoned by Ukrainian authorities. He hasn't been heard from since.

According to a handwritten message received by Lira's sister on Jan. 4, he had serious health problems caused by pneumonia and a collapsed lung that began in mid-October. It wasn't until December 22 that the prison authorities acknowledged the problem and that he was supposed to undergo surgery. The note was provided to The Grayzone by Lira Sr.

After Lira Senior appeared on Carlson's show, X owner Elon Musk personally inquired about Lira's case with US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, apparently to no avail.

Lira was a citizen of both the United States and Chile. According to his post last July, the Chilean embassy in Kyiv at least tried to help him, while the US embassy did not deal with him. Lira suggested that this was because Victoria Nuland – who is now Acting Deputy Foreign Minister Antony Blinken – hated him personally.

🇵🇸 Turning Point: Gaza Blockade

On 26 January 2006, a significant shift in the balance of power began.

The surprise triumph of Hamas in the Palestinian legislative elections shattered four decades of Fatah's rule, split the West Bank and Gaza between the groups and caused the indefinite blockade of Gaza.

In this episode of MEE’s history explainer series Turning Point, we take a look at how this moment led to Israel's implementation of a land, air, and naval blockade on the Gaza Strip. A siege confining 2.2 million Palestinians in the world's largest "open-air prison".

According to journalists sources, the Red Cross collaborated with a team from the Palestinian Telecommunications Company to repair and restore communication hubs in Khan Younis. The team, after being initially detained by Israeli occupation forces, was later released to continue their work. Upon completion and return, they were subjected to Israeli tank shelling. Tragically, two employees were instantly killed, while a third miraculously survived to recount the harrowing events.
