Taking Back Our Right to Privacy - Vote in favour of the new TG privacy setting

Over the last 10-20 years, each of us exchanged millions of messages with thousands of people. Most of those communication logs are stored somewhere in other people’s inboxes, outside of our reach. Relationships start and end, but messaging histories with ex-friends and ex-colleagues remain available forever.

It’s getting worse. Within the next few decades, the volume of our private data stored by our chat partners will easily quadruple.

An old message you already forgot about can be taken out of context and used against you decades later. A hasty text you sent to a girlfriend in school can come haunt you in 2030 when you decide to run for mayor. We have to admit: Despite all of our progress in encryption and privacy, we have very little actual control of our data. We can’t go back in time and erase things for other people.

Well, we couldn’t. Until today. Starting today, we are allowing every Telegram user to delete any message in a private conversation from both sides. It doesn’t matter who sent the message and when – you have complete control over it. You can even wipe out the whole conversation from both sides if you want to. No trace will be left on either side.

We know some people may get concerned about the potential misuse of this feature or about the permanence of their chat histories. We thought carefully through those issues, but we think having control over your own digital footprint should be paramount.

So please leave your vote in favour of the new privacy setting, so that this little extra which has such a great effect on our privacy can be preserved. 👇👇

Telegram recently introduced new privacy features wich are vital in an age of practically infinite storage and big data analytics. Unfortunately these are at stake already. Mr. Durov, the founder of Telegram, is running a poll on whether to keep these modifications or not.

For the full story, read these: https://t.me/OpenSourceTelegram/57 and https://t.me/OpenSourceTelegram/60. You may want to link @CloudLeak in your bio in either case since regular chats are not private - Telegram can read them. Even if there are reasons to assume that they are trustworthy at this point in time, letting a 3rd party accumulate all of your personal data isn't advisable.

OpenDroneMap (ODM)

ODM is an open source command line toolkit for processing aerial drone imagery. Typical drones use simple point-and-shoot cameras, so the images from drones, while from a different perspective, are similar to any pictures taken from point-and-shoot cameras, i.e. non-metric imagery. OpenDroneMap turns those simple images into three dimensional geographic data that can be used in combination with other geographic datasets.

MapKnitter (MapKnitter.org)

is a free and open source tool for combining and positioning images (often from MapMill.org) in geographic space into a composite image map. Known as “orthorectification” or “georectification” to geographers, this step covers the process of figuring out where images can be placed on an existing map, and how they can be combined, or “stitched” together. You are likely to have many images of overlapping or identical areas, which is why MapMill or some type of sorting is used to determine which source images to use from the original set.

MapKnitter can make maps from any image source, but it particularly lends itself to making maps with balloons and kites. The manual process of making maps with MapKnitter differs greatly from automated aerial imaging systems. In those systems the imaging is of a higher precision and processed with spatial and telemetry data collected along with the imagery, typically at higher altitudes and with consistent image overlap in the flight path sequence.

With MapKnitter the cartographer dynamically places each image and selects which images to include in the mosaic. Although the approaches are similar in that they use some type of additional information (usually pre-existing imagery of a lower resolution) as a reference, and that they are bound to specific cartographic elements such as map scale and map projection.

The advertising and tracking free social network Openbook has been online for Kickstarter supporters for a good three weeks now.

The whole code is open, there are no backdoors, no advertisements, no tracking. Users should always have control over their data: The recently launched Openbook should stand out above all from Facebook.

📺 New Project Brings Android Apps to the Linux Desktop
The dream of being able to run Android apps on Linux distributions like Ubuntu is a step closer to reality, thanks to a promising new open-source project called ‘SPURV‘.

Superficially, SPURV is similar to Bluestacks, an emulator that can run Android apps on Windows desktops in ‘windowed’ mode. It creates a virtualised Android device on your Linux system. Android apps are installed to and run through this layer.
