Gold just broke out, Bitcoin is hammering on the door, and the S&P is grinding toward Gareth's next resistance target near 7,810. The Nasdaq 100 has ripped 10% in a single week off last Wednesday's low β€” that does not happen often. But not everything is celebrating: AMD is down 8% on guidance and SpaceX is getting pounded into the exact measured-move target Gareth called before earnings. On today's Trading Game Plan, he maps the levels on all of it, plus the three supports he'd watch if the S&P finally pulls back.

πŸ“ TODAY'S GAME PLAN

🟒 SPY β€” Broke out of the wedge after holding the line three times. Next resistance is the 2024 trend line just above 7,810. On a pullback, first support is the former all-time high at 7,620, then the down-sloping trend line, then a third level below.
🟒 QQQ β€” Up 10% in one week on a Magnificent Seven bid. Gareth flags $737–$738 as massive resistance, where a gap fill and the 0.886 fib retrace stack up β€” about 1.5% away.
πŸ”΅ 10-YR YIELD / DXY β€” Yields flat after a big two-day drop, taking pressure off a September hike. Gareth remains skeptical the Fed actually raises, and wonders if Warsh is talking hawkish to get the effect without the action. Dollar easing back toward a key trend-line retest.
πŸ”΄ AMD β€” Down about 8% on guidance and margins after barely correcting while names like SanDisk fell 50–60%. Day trade only: Gareth's trend line sits just below the $450 round number.
πŸ”΄ SPACEX β€” Getting pounded into the $95–$97 measured move he called ahead of earnings, driven by the huge insider lockup expiry. That's the zone where he would consider a swing buy.
🟒 SHOP β€” Monster earnings surge that already pierced the $156 gap fill. Next day-trade level is $171 on an extreme extension move.
πŸ”΄ SEDG β€” SolarEdge trounced from about $48 down to $40. Scalp level at $38–$39 on the pivot low; swing interest only near $34.50 and $32.
🟒 ANET / DIS β€” Arista pops on earnings off recent highs. Disney bounces into a trend line near $106.50 β€” shortable there, but a confirmed break flips it and Gareth would buy the retrace instead.
πŸ”΄ UBER β€” Down 5–6%. A long-term trend line near $66 is a possible day trade, but it has been hit five times and a sixth makes a break a coin flip, so Gareth would rather wait.
🟒 GOLD β€” A resounding breakout candle. A close here confirms the wedge break. He is a long-term bull, though he would not be shocked by a run to $4,500 followed by a retrace later this year.
πŸ”΅ SILVER β€” Strong rally, but tons of resistance near $64. Until it clears that, the chart stays troublesome.
🟒 BITCOIN β€” On the verge of a breakout, hammering a trend line off multiple high pivots. With gold breaking out, Gareth sees reasonable odds it follows: first target $71K–$72K, then as high as $77K.

πŸ”‘ KEY TAKEAWAY: Day trades and swing trades need different levels. Gareth will scalp a decent trend line for a few minutes, but a swing hold takes a phenomenal multi-factor level β€” which is why AMD and Shopify are day trades today and SpaceX only becomes interesting near $95.

Stock market today: Dow posts record on hopes for Iran deal, S&P 500 and Nasdaq snap 4-day rally

Live updates

US stocks were mixed on Wednesday after a searing rally, as investors weighed earnings from SpaceX (SPCX) and AMD (AMD), and President Trump's comments that a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could happen as early as Wednesday.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) slipped 0.8% to snap a 4-day rally. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) retreated from a record to close down nearly 0.2%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) climbed 0.5% to post a new all-time high after Tuesday's record close.

Aug 5 (Reuters) - The Dow closed at a record on Wednesday on signs of progress for a peace deal with Iran, while the Nasdaq saw its first decline in five sessions as SpaceX and AMD stumbled following their quarterly β€Œearnings.

A proposed deal between Iran and Oman would give Tehran control over ships entering the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz, a senior Iranian source and two regional officials told Reuters, in one of the biggest concessions yet to Iran.

#TradingDay: Momentum fizzles, gold sizzles

ORLANDO, Florida, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Solid corporate earnings and optimism around a peace deal in the Middle East pushed world stocks to new highs on Wednesday, although momentum cooled as investors digested some tech weakness and the latest hawkish remarks on U.S. interest rates from a Federal Reserve official.

Meanwhile, gold had its best day in six months.
In my column today, I put Wall Street's race to new highs in the global context - as impressive as it is, it is far from β€Œexceptional. The earnings and growth advantage the U.S. has enjoyed over its developed world peers may be shrinking...

Today's Talking Points:
Lockup countdown

The SpaceX IPO in June was one of the most anticipated in history, and its first share lockup expiry on Thursday is no different. Insiders who acquired stakes before its June listing at a fraction of the $135-per-share IPO price stand to make big gains, but their sales could add fresh pressure on the stock, which is already 20% below its IPO price and 50% off its high...

Inflation expectations
If Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is looking for measures of inflation expectations that β€Œlean more to the benign end of the spectrum, he might consider the 1-year inflation swap rate. It was 1.71% on Wednesday, the lowest since 2024 and down from over 3.5% a few months ago. Importantly, it is below the Fed's 2% medium-term inflation target. The 2-year swap rate got as low as 2.07%...

Time to shine
Gold had its best day on Wednesday in six months, rising 4.5% and moving further away from the $4,000/oz level. Unlike oil or other precious metals lately, gold tends not to move this much β€” this was one of bullion's biggest one-day rises since the GFC. What gives?...

#Earnings live updates:
Western Digital stock sinks after 200% rally sets high bar, Expedia stock pops

Earnings continue to roll in, driving the stock market to new highs.

SpaceX (SPCX) and AMD (AMDreported after the closing bell on Tuesday, but the stocks fell as investors weighed capex plans and expectations for bigger beats.
High-flying memory names Sandisk (SNDK) and Western Digital (WDC) also sank on Wednesday after delivering earnings after hot rallies so far this year. Disney (DIS), Uber (UBER), Eli Lilly (LLY), and Kraft Heinz (KHC) also reported results.
