The HSI opened down 21 pts this morning (31st) before struggling between bulls and bears. The index notched a full-day volatility of nearly 300 pts and closed at 25,884, up 25 pts or 0.1%, with full-day turnover at HKD328.178 billion. The HSTECH closed at 4,829, up 25 pts or 0.53%, while the HSCEI closed at 8,612, down 32 pts or 0.38%.

Singapore stocks fall, bucking regional trend; STI down 0.8%

Singapore stocks ended lower on Friday (Jul 31), even as key regional indices ended higher.

The benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) lost 0.8 per cent or 45.08 points to finish at 5,628.50.

DFI Retail Group : D01 +5.61% led the gainers on Singapore’s blue-chip index, rising 5.6 per cent or US$0.21 to US$3.95.


The worst performer among STI constituents was ST Engineering : S63 -5.44%, which fell 5.4 per cent or S$0.58 to S$10.08.

The three local banks ended mixed on Friday. OCBC : O39 +0.1% rose 0.1 per cent or S$0.03 to S$29.13, while DBS : D05 -1.11% fell 1.1 per cent or S$0.83 to S$74.02 and UOB : U11 -1.09% ended 1.1 per cent or S$0.48 lower at S$43.40...

Across the broader market, gainers outnumbered losers 306 to 242, after 1.2 billion securities worth S$2.6 billion changed hands.

Elsewhere in the region, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index gained 0.1 per cent, Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 4 per cent, South Korea’s Kospi was up 17.9 per cent and the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI advanced 0.3 per cent...
