China stocks close week lower on AI selloff, Hong Kong shares hit one-year low
Jun 26, 2026, 16:27 GMT+8

China stocks tumbled on Friday to close the week lower, dragged down by AI-related shares and logging their largest daily loss in three months, while Hong Kong shares fell to a fresh one-year low.

** China's blue-chip CSI300 Index 3399300 closed down 3%, while the Shanghai Composite Index οΏΌ000001 lost 2.3%. Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng οΏΌHSI was down 1.8%.

** The losses came as South Korea's benchmark KOSPI οΏΌKOSPI dropped as much as 9% and the Nasdaq οΏΌIXIC declined overnight, after investors took profits following a sharp rally in global chips and AI supply chain stocks.

** For the week, the CSI300 Index was down 1.5%, while the Hang Seng Index slid 5.2%, marking its largest weekly loss since April 2025.

** China's CSI Artificial Intelligence Index 9930713 fell 4.6%, while the CSI 5G Communication Index 9931079 tumbled 5.8%.

** Zhongji Innolight οΏΌ300308, the world's leading optical module maker, slumped 5.3%.

** China's onshore market has recently shown a K-shaped divergence, with hardware technology stocks rising, while most other sectors, including traditional liquor and financial heavyweights, have declined.

** Non-ferrous metal shares (.CSISNMIM) fell 4.4%, while liquor stocks 3399997 dropped 3.1%.

** Meng Lei, China equity strategist at UBS, said he expects earnings growth for all onshore shares to accelerate to 11% this year from 3.9% last year, with first-quarter results showing that earnings are recovering at a faster pace.

** Over the medium term, he said, the rollout of more supportive policies, progress in tackling excessive competition, and a rising share of overseas revenue would all help boost profit margins.

** Tech majors listed in Hong Kong HHSTECH were down 3.4% on Friday and 7.6% this week, posting their worst week since October 2025.

Did Micron earnings save the AI trade? Chief Market Strategist Gareth Soloway says no - the report sent the memory names higher, but the rest of the semiconductors kept falling, and now OpenAI has backed off going public this year. To Gareth, that's a flashing sign liquidity is drying up and a bigger correction is brewing. After this morning's PCE inflation data came in roughly in line, he walks the top trades and levels across stocks, the dollar, metals, oil, and a Bitcoin sitting right at a make-or-break level.

πŸ“Š COVERED IN THIS EPISODE:
πŸ”΄ Micron (MU) - Surged on earnings back toward its recent highs (~$1,250) but couldn't hold, rolling over near $1,135; a break of yesterday's low triggers a sell signal. Only memory names rose - Marvell, NVIDIA, and Broadcom all fell
πŸ”΄ The Liquidity Story - OpenAI says it's no longer going public this year ("market conditions"); with SpaceX below $150 and Cerebras below its $185 insider price, Gareth sees exit liquidity and a bigger semiconductor correction brewing
πŸ”΅ S&P 500 & Nasdaq - Lower lows are confirmed; Gareth is watching for the lower high that completes a top (using Meta and Microsoft as recent examples) - a correction, not a crash
πŸ”΄ NVIDIA (NVDA) - Opening below technical support; must recapture $195 or risk a slide to $178, then $165
πŸ”΄ Broadcom (AVGO) - A bear flag gapping down; first bounce target $350, then a gap fill toward $290
πŸ”΅ US Dollar (DXY) - Pulling back from its potential breakout, giving gold and silver small bounces
🟒 Gold - Into Gareth's $3,900-$4,000 support and bouncing, now coiling in a wedge; a breakdown targets $3,500, a breakout starts a bigger move (he still sees $10K+ by 2030)
πŸ”΄ Silver - A small bounce; first major target $54, then $50, with the broken $64 support now resistance
πŸ”΅ Tesla (TSLA) - Watching $365 as a day-trade/swing level; a break opens $337
🟒 Palantir (PLTR) - In free fall from $163 to $107; Gareth's a swing-trade buyer into the $94-$97 support
πŸ”΅ Alibaba (BABA) - Down to $92 and on the radar; major trendline support at $83-$85
πŸ”΅ Oil - Down after the Iran/Strait of Hormuz pop; major support and a gap fill at $67-$69, where Gareth expects an oversold bounce
πŸ”΅ Natural Gas - A cup-and-handle / bull flag tightening up; not broken out yet, but increasingly intriguing
πŸ”΄ Bitcoin (BTC) - Hammering $58,900 for a third day; a confirmed break cascades toward $50K. MicroStrategy (MSTR) is a leveraged proxy at $82.50, with support near $73

πŸ”‘ KEY TAKEAWAY: Micron's earnings didn't save the AI trade - only memory names bounced while the rest of the semis fell, and OpenAI pulling its IPO signals liquidity is drying up. Lower lows are in, and Gareth is watching for the lower high to confirm a market top (a correction, not a crash). Gold's into a buy zone, silver's heading for $54, and Bitcoin sits at a make-or-break level above $50K.
