Last night President Trump brought up William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States. He was assassinated in 1901 and Teddy Roosevelt became president.

McKinley gave his last speech on September 5, 1901 in Buffalo, New York - one day before being assassinated. President McKinley talked about how prosperous the country was and his plans for trade expansion:

"My fellow citizens, trade statistics indicate that this country is in a state of unexampled prosperity. The figures are almost appalling."

He also stated the following - sound familiar?

"Let us ever remember that our interest is in concord, not conflict; and that our real eminence rests in the victories of peace, not those of war. "

This article is interesting. President Harrison went on a spending spree with congress. They almost seemingly on purpose put through legislation that would cause inflation. Sound familiar?

By 1890 they had emptied the Treasury and during the next presidential term the U.S. slipped into a depression.

But look at what William McKinley did after that. He brought America back. This is what Trump was telling us last night.
