Elon Musk’s Neuralink brain implant has started recruiting for it’s first human trial 🧠

After receiving approval from an independent review board, Neuralink is set to begin offering brain implants to paralysis patients as part of the PRIME (Precise Robotically Implanted Brain-Computer Interface) Study.

Trial patients will have a chip surgically placed in the part of the brain that controls the intention to move. The chip, installed by a robot, will then record and send brain signals to an app, with the initial goal being “to grant people the ability to control a computer cursor or keyboard using their thoughts alone.

Wireless charging of implants needs to be easy, performant, and safe. Here’s a demonstration of how we stress test our control loops that manage the charger’s output power to wirelessly charge our implant at various distances and angles📈

Celebrity engineer Elon Musk today announced a breakthrough in his endeavor to sync the human brain with artificial intelligence. During a live-streamed demonstration involving farm animals and a stage, Musk said that his company Neuralink ask me about it👌

The surface of the brain is highly vascularized, and avoiding blood vessels when implanting electrodes is no small feat! Fluorescent dye imaging can allow our robot to resolve smaller vessels and distinguish between arteries (red) and veins (blue) in this false color image 🔴🔵

In less than one minute, our custom-made femtosecond laser mill cuts this geometry in the tips of our needles. The tip is only 10 to 12 microns in width—only slightly larger than the diameter of a red blood cell. The small size allows threads to be inserted with minimal damage to the cortex. 🪡

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI is currently seeking to raise $1 billion from equity investors.

The company, established by Musk earlier this year, aims to compete with other generative AI companies. Already, xAI has successfully raised nearly $135 million.

The company’s first product is a chatbot named Grok, which is integrated with the X social network.

Musk has been critical of OpenAI, particularly after his departure from its board in 2018, and has expressed reservations about AI technology in general.

The Neuralink device has 1,024 electrodes to catch signals from lots of neurons. More electrodes mean more neurons and more information. To get this close to neurons, they drill a hole in the skull and put it in the brain.

🗣️ Elon Musk believes merging human brains with AI, through Neuralink, addresses a significant concern: the fear of AI overpowering humans.
