Elon Musk announced that Tesla is raising salaries for its AI engineering team because OpenAI has been aggressively recruiting Tesla's AI engineers.

In a recent post on his social media platform X, Musk responded to OpenAI's hiring effort by saying, "They have been aggressively recruiting Tesla engineers with massive compensation offers and have unfortunately been successful in a few cases."

There is an intense "talent war" over AI engineers happening as tech companies race to become dominant players in the field.

Musk described the battle for AI talent as "the craziest talent war I've ever seen."

Noland Arbaugh, a 29-year-old man who has been paralyzed from the neck down for eight years from a diving accident, recently made headlines as the first human to have Elon Musk’s Neuralink brain chip implanted.

Despite the revolutionary nature of this development, major concerns about the safety of the technology exist, especially in light of previous trials on animals.

“I read a lot of the negative stuff about this before the surgery — about all the terrible things that [the company was] putting the monkeys through and how awful it was, monkeys like picking out their implant and rubbing it on the ground and all sorts of stuff,” Arbaugh shared with the Sun, reflecting on his initial concerns before agreeing to the implant procedure.

The company acknowledged the euthanization of several animals but attributed the loss of limbs to inter-monkey aggression rather than to the effects of the technology or testing conditions. Elon Musk, in response to the controversy, said on social media, “No monkey has died as a result of a Neuralink implant. First, our early implants, to minimize risk to healthy monkeys, we chose terminal monkeys (close to death already).”

The patient, Noland Arbaugh, said during a livestream on X that the chip was “not perfect” but it had already added many improvements to his life, such as giving him the ability to play video games for hours without having to rely on help from his family.

Musk first announced in January that Neuralink had implanted one of its chips into a human for the first time, following several years of tests conducted on animals.
