LabHub & ishare2 Updates ️
⚠️ Main mirror outage So it seems like https://labhub.eu.org/ is down because of a broken dependency. If the issue can't be solved, we'll switch to another backend as primary mirror. Use alternative mirrors in the meantime, after all that's what they're here…
⚠️ Actually the real reason is that my server got terminated for some odd reason so the APT mirror I had made for PNETLab is down as well as the beta subdomain. Gotta migrate things to a new server. Keep using alternative mirrors

✔️ Fixed main mirror
labhub.eu.org was fixed. I didn't have time to fix it on the weekend because I have a life lol
But it's now fixed, turns out it was both a deprecated dependency and my Redis server that caused the outage. If it wasn't because of the broken dependency the site would've been back up since yesterday.

Anyway, it's all good now. You can use the main mirror again!

🚀 New Mirrors Update: Paving the way for file integrity check features!

📏 New Size Units: Initially, our index only returned human-readable sizes (e.g., 1.2MiB), which was user-friendly but not ideal for precise size comparisons.

📊 Improved Accuracy: Now, alongside the human-readable format, we've included file sizes in bytes, ensuring accurate size comparisons.

🔍 What's Changed: You'll notice the index now returns both formats, this will be useful later on for file integrity implementation features: https://github.com/ishare2-org/mirrors

🔼Update Now: Don't forget to update ishare2 otherwise the size will be shown as bytes only when searching for an image.

Hey everyone!
I noticed the official PNETLab APT repository has been extremely slow. After 2 days I finally finished downloading all the files needed to mirror it on the previous alt repository.

If PNETLab takes way too long to install you can use this as source: https://pnetlab.labhub.eu.org/

First edit the sources file with nano or your favorite CLI text editor:
nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Then replace:
deb [trusted=yes] https://repo.pnetlab.com ./

With:
deb [trusted=yes] https://pnetlab.labhub.eu.org ./

As a side note, I have not verified the integrity of the packages and I have not tested them so please let me know if you find any issues with this mirror.

PSA: I have officially finished my final college internship.
This means I might take care of the broken (time consuming) stuff that I haven't taken care of the last couple months while I look for a full time job (hopefully it won't take too long 😂)

Let me know what works and what doesn't below. I'll finally fix the GUI tool as well
🎉17🔥3👏32
I started teaching part time last week (temporary job). Even tho it is a part time job it is a new thing for me so it's taking me some time to get used to. All that to say that the new GUI might take a bit longer to be ready. I have made a lot of progress working on a backend API and once that's done a simple GUI will be released as beta which will be improved as needs are addressed.

PS: I copied new pending images to the repository last night.

Thanks for sticking around and consider donating :)

ishare2 update
Hi everyone! Long time no updates on this channel, but I'm still alive! 😆 (Just having a bit of a busy life lately)

I've pushed a few updates since the last announcement. They weren't major changes, so I didn't mention them here.

But this time, I've got a simple yet useful update to share! 🎉 Remember when I updated the indexes to return sizes in bytes? Well, I've finally used those sizes to perform a basic integrity check between downloaded images and file sizes on LabHub. This means you'll now be able to tell if the image you downloaded might be corrupt. 💥

This is not a perfect integrity check since ideally we'd use hashes but that's computing intensive and I haven't made any progress in implementing those checks yet.

Stay tuned for more updates and happy networking! 🚀

⚠️ Incoming update to database server

I will perform an update on the redis database server that powers the main mirror's (
labhub.eu.org) backend.
The site is expected to fail for maybe 2 hours.
Use alternative domains:
drive.labhub.eu.org
legacy.labhub.eu.org

Done!

📱 New Signal Group Chat
Someone suggested we should have a backup of LabHub somewhere else like Signal and I agree.

I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the LabHub Channel has some sort of restriction and embedded messages don't show up anymore unless you sign into Telegram to view the messages.

Even tho I have no other big reason to think the channel will be taken down, I made a backup on Signal.

You can join by clicking on this link:

Make sure you hide your phone number from the privacy settings before you join to keep it private. 🔑

I'll try to implement automated cross platform posting so I don't forget to post there like I did with 📱 WhatsApp 😅

📱 LabHub Subreddit

Back in April 2023, I created a LabHub subreddit as an alternative platform for those who prefer Reddit over Telegram. I haven't been a frequent Reddit user, so I haven’t promoted it until now. However, after receiving requests for an official Reddit space, here it is!

Feel free to join and participate: r/labhub

Since I’m still learning the ropes on Reddit, I could use some help with moderating the community. Let me know if you're interested!

Thanks to everyone who has boosted the channel!

Also, I noticed that monetization was enabled automatically on the channel, probably a long time ago. I personally don't like ads but hopefully they're not too annoying because I can't disable them and I only get a couple cents in revenue in the TON cryptocurrency that I don't use lol

I have always hated ads but what do you guys think of subtle sponsors? The LabHub repositories are visited by thousands of people everyday and I've been thinking what if someone wants to promote something related to networking (or tech in general) on the front page of the repositories? Of course I would have to make sure what is promoted is not a scam but please let me know what you think in the comments.

Would you be interested in promoting your website/products/services in the LabHub front pages? Would it be annoying if I took some sponsorships and put them on the front page?
