Handling Emotions during UPSC Preparation

The UPSC journey can be emotionally challenging, and managing your mental state is just as important as your studies. Here’s how to address common feelings you may encounter:

Tired: Nap to recharge.
It rejuvenates your mind, so you can come back stronger. Just ensure the nap happens prior to 3PM.

Feeling Sad: Listen to music.
It engages your emotions and can instantly alter your mental state.
One of my goto song:

Stressed: Go for a walk.
It refreshes your mind with new energy. I like to so much so that it featured as a hobby on my DAF:

Burnt Out: Read something inspiring.
Reading offers perspective and reminds you why you started.
One of all time fav recommendation that should be made compulsory even for kids is ‘Animal Farm’.

Feeling Lost: Pray or reflect.
It grounds you and reinforces faith in your path. Hence our Tuesday Spirituality sessions on @LIFE_neil

Overthinking: Write it down.
Writing organizes thoughts, making them feel less overwhelming. That’s where journaling comes into picture!

Taking care of your emotional well-being is key to sustaining your UPSC preparation. Use these strategies to keep yourself balanced and focused on your goal.

Why AI is not the final Answer for your Prep, and why Sherlocking will help Unlock Your True Potential:

There’s a growing trend of UPSC Aspirants expecting GPT and similar tools to revolutionise their prep.

What they often fail to grasp is that the responses provided by AI are merely a starting point. For instance, an AI tool like GPT can give you ‘Answers’ to PYQs.

But the real value lies in understanding ‘HOW’ to arrive at those answers - a skill that remains critical. Often questions come from derived themes from PYQs. So, the exact question coming next year might be tweaked, rendering the crammed answer irrelevant, but the process of ‘HOW to create the answer’ often remains the same.

Developing this deeper understanding, and being able to structure arguments, provide context, and choose relevant examples - especially for advanced writing- is something GPT etc. cannot yet emulate, even with significant human guidance.

This process of ‘HOW’ is what we developed to create ‘SHERLOCKING’ as we know it.

None of this is to say that AI tools have no place in the modern world. The use of technology is not only desirable but necessary in this era.

However, an over-reliance on these tools without fully understanding them is a recipe for trouble, promoting intellectual laziness, encouraging aspirants to rely on quick answers rather than engaging in deep learning and critical thinking.

Students must recognise that there is no shortcut to developing true expertise. AI can be a powerful aid, but it is no substitute for the hard work of learning to think critically and independently.

Those who believe otherwise are setting themselves up for disappointment at best, and disaster at worst. Any AI tool at this point in time is a replacement for ‘Google Search’ at best, all this while, running the risk of ‘AI Hallucinations’.

If ‘google search’ was a hammer, GPT is a drill machine. But you still need the right professional, otherwise a drill will do more damange in the hands of a noob than a hammer.

Idk how I forgot to share the snips this morning. Anyway, it’s never too late if it’s still the same day, as far as newspaper snippets are concerned. 😄

Course Update:

As always, Sherlocking Modules not only come with a 2yr validity, but also 2yr free updates, atleast for now.

A lot of our past students have been surprised when they realised that the new updates are included in the validity.

However, due to re-organisation and changing contracts with the app providers, the situation will change by the end of the year for new admissions by then. If you were contemplating to enrol, there will be no better to enrol than now!

Around the end of the year, prices will undergo an upward revision, we’ll have different pricing structures for different validities and so on. We’re sure you’ll take the best call for the preparation.

For any followup queries, feel free to reach out to us on @helpdeskupsc.

“Those who have no battles to fight in their lives are truly unfortunate. Either they must have broken some vows, or they must have fled from the battlefield.”

A life without struggle does indeed lack depth. Embrace your struggles with your head held high and give in to your fate- Amor Fati!
