UPSC Prelims verus Sherlocking
I have often been asked what is 'Sherlocking' and if it was applicable in UPSC Prelims 2023 and how relevant will it be moving forward.
This short video not only covers the basics of 'Sherlocking' but I demonstrate its basics by solving some questions from UPSC Prelims 2023.
Know that while this exam comes with no guarantee, I truly believe that following the right process can give you as good a chance as there can be.

This exam is brutally uncertain. Nobody can deny it. But there is still an optimised way to give yourself the best shot in this exam.
What we suggested right after Prelims has turned out to be true, cutoff has plummeted to an all time low into mid 70s.
Anybody claiming that the exam was a हल्वा, is either a fool or trying to make a fool out of others.
The low cutoff is exclusively down to commission’s disregard for meritocracy by making vague, ambiguos and irrelevant questions. But we can’t do anything about that.
While making the Pre 23 Analysis, I firsthand found 10-15 brutally ambiguous questions.
What we can do now is stick to the best process. Basic Sources, Revision and PYQ Analysis, with or without me.
Don’t fall in the trap of unnecessary mocks, guaranteed guidance or clickbaits on YT.
Guard your biggest resources with your life, Time and Attention, and give yourself the best shot!

🚨 For People Worried about Mock Scores
🎲 Given the current unpredictable quality of Mocks, the score absolutely doesn’t matter!
🎯 Focus on getting the basic questions correct.
📝 Use mocks as an opportunity to:
- ⏳ Sit for 2hrs with focus and
- ✍️ Fill OMR without silly mistakes.
🛤 Believe in the process and yourself.
🌌 Leave the rest to Almighty/ Karma/ Mother Nature/ Blessings/ Whatever it is you believe in!

Idk what this reminds me of! 🌚
Ofcourse TT, what else.
We are mostly only exposed to successful candidates who would want to believe that it was their ‘competence’ and ‘strategy’ that helped them clear the exam, negating the role of luck.
A narrative like that creates unnecessary burden, anxiety and false expectations out of how this ‘uncertain’ exam operates.
You can’t always control the outcome with 100% certainty either here or in any other domain of your life, the sooner you accept, the better you could focus exclusively on controllables.
Controllables:
-Basic Sources,
-PYQ Analysis,
-Being in the right mindset,
-7.5hrs study per day 5.5 days a week consistently,
-Application of knowledge.
And then leave the rest to the Almighty , Mother Nature, Karma, Blessings and Love of your Parents & Elders!

Earth Day & India's 'Panchamrit' Goals: Quick Guide for UPSC Aspirants 🌍
Earth Day is our annual reminder to protect our planet. For UPSC aspirants, knowing India’s ‘Panchamrit’ targets from COP26 is crucial. Here’s what you need to know:
1. Clean Energy: By 2030, half of our power will come from non-fossil sources. Huge move towards solar 🌞 and wind 🌬️ energy.
2. Cut Down Carbon: We’re cutting down our carbon intensity by 45% by 2030 from 2005 levels. This means making industries cleaner and more efficient. 🏭➡️🌱
3. Boost Renewable Energy: Aim to reach 500 GW renewable energy by 2030. This is about building more solar parks and wind farms. ⚡🌿
4. Zero Out Carbon by 2070: Long-term goal to stop adding more carbon to the atmosphere by 2070. A big commitment to fight climate change. 🌐
5. More Green Land: We plan to fix up 26 million hectares of damaged land by 2030, helping nature and improving the air. 🌲🌳
Study Tips:
- Focus on these goals and how we plan to get there. Check the latest reports and news for updates. 📚👀
- Use these points in your answers to show you understand what’s happening and why it matters. ✍️
Keep it Real: These goals are ambitious, but they’re not easy. Keep up with progress reports to stay informed. 🧐
Exam Prep: Understand these points well—they’ll help you in the exam and as a future officer who might work on these issues. 📝🎯
Remember, Earth Day is about action—India’s plans are a big part of our global promise to do better for our planet. 🌏💚
