Myth: Listicle prelanders always beat advertorials — they're proven.
No. "Proven" by whom, on what offer, in which year? The listicle ("7 things…") won big in 2018 and got copied to death. Audiences pattern-match it as an ad now.
The real tradeoff is intent temperature:
— Advertorial / editorial story: warms a cold, skeptical reader who needs a narrative before they'll trust the offer. Slower, higher converting on considered purchases.
— Listicle: faster scan, better for impulse and curiosity buys, worse when the click is already jaded.
Match the format to the buyer's heat, not to last year's case study. Supposedly listicles are a cheat code. They're a format the whole vertical wore out while you weren't looking. The fresh angle out-converts the famous one.

Myth: Retarget with display banners — native is for prospecting only.
Wrong. You've got the layers backwards. Display banners get scrolled past by people who already know your brand; banner blindness is brutal on warm audiences. Native, dressed as a recommendation, sneaks past that filter precisely because it doesn't look like the ad they ignored yesterday.
The useful division of labor:
— Native: top of funnel discovery AND mid-funnel re-engagement via fresh editorial angles.
— Display: cheap reminder frequency, cart abandonment, dynamic product feeds — mechanical, not persuasive.
Using display for the persuasion job and native for prospecting only is a habit, not a strategy. Native's whole edge is camouflage. Why would you waste that on strangers and then hand the warm, persuadable audience to the format they've been trained to ignore?

Myth: MGID and RevContent are just "cheaper Taboola" — same game, lower CPC.
No. The lower CPC isn't a discount; it's a different product. Tier-2 native networks sell looser inventory with thinner fraud controls. You're not buying the same traffic cheaper — you're buying riskier traffic that requires more hands-on policing to break even.
When tier-2 earns its place:
— You have a tracker, a tight blocklist discipline, and an offer with margin to absorb waste.
— You're farming volume for a numbers-game vertical (sweeps, leadgen) where cleanup pays.
When it doesn't:
— Thin margins, no time to babysit site lists, brand-sensitive client work.
Treating MGID like cheap Taboola gets people wrecked. Allegedly it's the same traffic for less. It's different traffic that costs less because it's worth less — unless you do the work.

Myth: Add a viewability vendor (IAS, DV) and you'll know your native ads are seen.
Wrong about what it proves. Viewability tools confirm pixels entered the viewport for a second. That is not attention — that's geometry. A native widget can be 100% "viewable" at the bottom of an article nobody read past paragraph one.
The better signal is engaged time and scroll depth on your own prelander, plus the click-to-conversion ratio. Those measure whether a human cared, not whether a div was technically on-screen.
When viewability vendors are worth it:
— Big brand spend where you need a third-party number for the deck.
When they're theater:
— Performance buying, where "70% viewable" tells you nothing about why CPA is climbing.
Viewability measures the easiest-to-game thing in the chain. Supposedly it's quality assurance. It's a reassuring number, sold by the people reassured by it.

Forwarded from AffPapa!
Я — Head of Retention. И в своём канале разбираю ошибки, из-за которых команды месяцами теряют LTV, даже не замечая этого.

Myth: Found a winner? Raise the budget and scale up.
No. Vertical scaling — cranking the daily cap on a working native campaign — drags in worse inventory as the algorithm reaches for volume it couldn't justify at the old bid. Your clean winner gets diluted by the junk it now has to buy to spend the money.
Horizontal scaling beats it on native almost every time:
— Duplicate the winner into new campaigns split by device, OS, or country.
— Launch the proven angle on a second network.
— Mine new top-sites from the winner's allowlist and isolate them.
Vertical scaling is one knob and a prayer. Horizontal scaling keeps each unit small enough that the algorithm stays honest. Everyone yanks the budget slider because it's the easy move. Then they wonder where the margin went. It went into the inventory you forced the bid to reach.

Myth: Use lookalike audiences on native like you would on Meta.
Wrong arena. Native's strength was never behavioral targeting — it's contextual placement on content people are already reading. Bolting Meta-style lookalikes onto a widget network gives you the worst of both: weaker behavioral signal than social, while throwing away native's real lever, context.
The better split:
— Contextual / interest-by-content targeting: native's home turf, privacy-durable, survives cookie decay.
— Lookalike / behavioral: keep it on the platforms built for it with the data to back it.
As third-party signal keeps degrading, contextual is getting stronger, not weaker. Supposedly lookalikes are the sophisticated play. On native they're a borrowed tactic that ignores the one thing the channel does better than anyone. Target the article, not the imaginary twin of last month's buyer.
