A 16-year-old Grade 10 student at Thika High School has died following an alleged altercation with a fellow student.

According to preliminary reports, the disagreement escalated on Friday before the student was allegedly pushed from the first floor of a school building, sustaining fatal injuries. Police have launched investigations into the incident, while the other student is assisting detectives with the inquiry.

The tragedy has left the school community in shock as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the student's death.

Chianda Boys High School in Siaya County has been closed indefinitely after a fire destroyed a dormitory housing Form Three students.

The blaze razed Senior Chief Nathan Ojungo House, displacing 113 learners and destroying their personal belongings. The incident marks the second dormitory fire at the school in less than a month.

School management has suspended learning to allow investigations into the cause of the fire. Authorities confirmed that all students were safely accounted for and that no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Shocking reports now claim the three victims were teenagers (under 18s).

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially declared Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru (DCP) the winner of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election in a landslide victory.

Official results are as follows:

✅ Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru (DCP) – 35,440 votes
✅ Samuel Muchina Nyagah (UDA) – 5,450 votes
✅ Wilson Mwaniki Kigwa (Jubilee) – 198 votes

The victory is being seen as a major political boost for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and a significant setback for President William Ruto and UDA.

The by-election attracted intense national attention, with President Ruto and senior government officials camping in the constituency for days.

The government rolled out several development projects and distributed items including gas cylinders, mattresses, blankets, food supplies, boats, and other household goods in a bid to win over voters. Despite the heavy campaign and spending, voters overwhelmingly backed the DCP candidate.

President William Ruto speaks following UDA's heavy defeat in the Ol Kalou by-election, urging the newly elected MP to get to work, as voters will judge all leaders by their performance.
