“The fact that I am on these steps in place of others from the Christie administration, and the governor himself, does not prove my guilt. It only proves that justice is not blind. It has favorites. It misses the mark. It misses the truth. And it picks winners and losers that are sometimes beyond anyone’s control.”

Some changes may be on the horizon for drivers who use the #VerrazanoBridge: you may have to pay in both directions.
On Sunday, congressional lawmakers will announce legislation to reinstate two-way tolls. Right now, only drivers heading into Staten Island from Brooklyn have to pay to cross the span. Under the proposal, drivers would not have to pay more. Instead, the current one-way toll would be split in half.

City officials said that the information was already public record, and that a new forum did not change its availability. But the move raised alarms among privacy advocates and some election experts, who said the ease of access could play into the hands of mail scammers, internet trolls and domestic violence perpetrators.

Man Withdraws $400 With Card Stolen In Williamsburg Car Break-In
Police are looking for a man who used a stolen bank card to withdraw hundreds of dollars earlier this month.
At 10:30 a.m. on April 1 a 35-year-old man came back to his car, which was parked near Skillman Avenue and Humboldt Street, to find that someone had stolen things from inside, police said.
Investigators found out that someone had taken the man's bank card out of the car around 1 a.m. The thief then used the card to withdraw $400 cash from an ATM, police said.
Police described the suspect as being in his twenties; last seen wearing a green cap and dark gray jacket.

Confirmation Of Girl Bitten On Face By Blood-Sucking 'Kissing Bug' Sparks New CDC Warning
The #KissingBug, a disease-carrying insect which is known to bite people on their mouths and faces, has made its way to the East Coast.
In July last year, a family from Kent County in #DE contacted the state’s Division of Public Health and Department of Agriculture to request assistance in identifying a bug that had bitten their child’s face.
According to the #CDC, the parents were concerned about possible disease transmission from the insect.

#Rockland Executive #EdDay and Health Commissioner Dr. #PatriciaSchnabelRuppert are heading to #Albany Monday to advocate for an end to religious vaccine exemptions amid a growing measles outbreak in the county, according to a news release from the county. Day and Ruppert will be advocating for the passing of a New York Senate bill that would repeal all non-medical exemptions from vaccination requirements for children.
The county executive and health commissioner will be joined by the sponsors of the bill, Sen. #BradHoylman and Assemblyman #JeffreyDinowitz, as well as Rockland legislators who co-sponsor the bill as part of World Immunization Week.

No one was hurt, but the commanding officer of the mayor’s executive protection unit, Howard Redmond, was furious. Text messages show he immediately ordered the incident be covered up to protect de Blasio’s image.
“As per CO [the commanding officer] no one is to know about this,” Sgt. Jerry Ioveno texted members of the unit, referring to Redmond. “Not even the other teams.”
“No one is to know,” he repeated.

Daniel Desmond Amofah, known online as Etika, was taken into custody for allegedly threatening to end his life inside his Willoughby Street apartment between Lawrence and Bridge streets just after 1:30 p.m., according to police, who put the street on lockdown for an hour after the unhinged live post.
Amofah went on a rambling and bigoted social media rampage, tweeting “I fear nothing,” “f--- the Jews,” — which he later deleted — “f----t” and calling himself a “god.”

Apple Pay is coming to New York City’s MTA transit system this summer
It’s been nearly two years since we wrote that #NYC would finally be upgrading its transit system to take “tap-to-pay” contactless payments, but #Apple’s #TimCook says it’s finally coming true — on the company’s Q2 earnings call today, the CEO told investors that #ApplePay will begin rolling out to New York City’s #MTA transit system starting in “early summer” of this year, letting you tap a phone or watch to pay instantly.
But it probably won’t just be Apple Pay, because a few quick web searches show that NYC has actually already announced a specific date for a contactless payment system that should support other phone-based wallets (perhaps rival Android Pay?) and even contactless credit cards.

Police Search For Shooter After Somerville Bank Robbery
There is an intense search on in Somerville for a man who police say shot at an officer during a bank robbery Wednesday morning. Police Chief David Fallon said the armed man went into the Middlesex Federal Savings Bank on College Avenue in Davis Square just before 10 a.m., fired off a round and attempted to rob the bank.
“An officer entered the bank through an another door, the officer and the suspect exchanged gunfire,” Fallon said. Several shots were fired, the man ran off and officers went after him. There were several people in the bank at the time of the robbery, but no one was hurt.

Mugger Attacks 75-Year-Old Inside Bed-Stuy Subway, Cops Say
#Brooklyn: A 75-year-old man was thrown up against a subway wall and robbed of the cash in his pocket, police said. The elderly straphanger was attacked by a man in his 20s inside the Nostrand Avenue #ALine and #CLine train station on Fulton Street in #BedStuy just before 4 a.m. Monday, according to police.
The man began shouting at the 75-year-old, then pushed him into the wall, stole $20 and ran out of the station, police said. Emergency responders took the elderly man to Kings County Hospital to be treated for his injuries, said police. Police are now looking for the mugger, last seen wearing dark clothes and a white hooded shirt.

Hate crimes against Jewish people in #NYC nearly doubled in the first four months of this year as the city grappled with an overall spike in hate-fueled attacks.
The #NYPD had recorded 82 anti-Semitic hate crimes as of April 30, up from just 45 in the same period last year. Those incidents account for more than half of the 145 hate crimes the city saw in that period, which marks a 67% increase from 2018, police statistics released Thursday show.
The NYPD unveiled the new total less than a week after an anti-Semitic gunman killed one person and injured three others on Saturday at a synoagogue in Poway, California.
