Man caught with 2 gas cans entering St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC, police say

#NY: A man was taken into custody in #NYC Wednesday night after entering St. Patrick’s Cathedral carrying two canisters of gasoline, two bottles of lighter fluid and two butane lighters, authorities said. The 37-year-old man, whose identity will be released once he is formally charged, was stopped by a cathedral security officer, #NYPD said. As the man was turned around, he spilled some gasoline on the floor and walked south onto Fifth Avenue and over to 50th street. Cathedral security notified two Critical Response Command (CRC) officers-- part of a "striker team"-- outside the cathedral.
$426-A-Month Brooklyn Apartments Hit Housing Lotto

More than 140 affordable apartments, some going for as little as $426-a-month, hit the #NYC housing lottery this week, city records show.
New Yorkers have until June 17 to apply for one of 143 new apartments at Nehemiah Spring Creek, a new housing development at 475-510 Vandalia Ave. in East New York, according to a new listing on NYC Housing Connect. There are four studios, 17 one-bedrooms, 116 two-bedrooms and six three-bedrooms up for grabs for people who make between 30% and 90% of the Annual Median Income.
Cops arrest Williamsburg man suspected of murdering woman with axe

Police arrested a man they suspect of brutally murdering one woman and seriously injuring another with an axe at his Flushing Avenue apartment in the early hours of April 20.

Cops charged Jerry Brown with the murder of Savannah Rivera, the attempted murder of another woman, and criminal possession of two weapons, inside his home at Humboldt Street just before 1:30 a.m., according to authorities.

The 34-year-old allegedly killed Rivera, 20, whom police found in the living room of the eighth-floor apartment with several stab wounds and lacerations to her head and body.
Spectrum May Not Be Booted From New York After All

The Empire State's largest internet service provider may be allowed to stick around after all. #NY utilities regulators reached a settlement Friday with Charter Communications — which offers internet service under the #Spectrum brand name — after threatening to kick the company out of New York last summer.

The deal between Charter, the state's Department of Public Service and the Public Service Commission would require the company to expand its high-speed broadband service to 145,000 businesses and homes upstate and put $12 million toward other internet expansion efforts, officials say.

The expansion would have to be completed by September 2021 under the agreement, which is still subject to a 60-day public comment period and review by the commission, officials say.
#NYCASP (street cleaning) regulations are suspended on Thursday-Saturday, April 25-27, 2019 for Holy Thursday (Orthodox), Good Friday (Orthodox) and Passover (7th/8th Days). All other regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect.

Bedford Town Justice Removed From Post After DWI Charge In Mount Kisco

Jacobsen, 54, of #BedfordHills, was arrested a little after midnight on Monday, April 22, after the #Westchester County Police received a report that a silver Mercedes was being driven erratically on the Saw Mill River Parkway in #MountKisco, said police department spokesman Kieran O'Leary.

Following the report, an officer responded to that area and observed the vehicle exit the parkway and travel east on Route 133. The officer followed the vehicle on local streets, including East Main Street, and observed that the driver was unable to maintain his lane, O'Leary said. The officer made a traffic stop in front of 90 South Bedford Road. In speaking with Jacobsen, he detected an odor of alcohol on his breath and slurred speech, he added.

‘Mr. Christie, you are a bully!’ declares Bridget Kelly, as the former aide is again sentenced to prison for her part in Bridgegate scandal

Taking aim at her former boss, #BridgetAnneKelly angrily lashed out at Gov. #ChrisChristie Wednesday after she was re-sentenced to 13 months in federal prison for her role in the Bridgegate scandal — asking how he and others in his administration escaped scrutiny.

Speaking out for the first time since her conviction, Kelly turned her fury on the governor and members of his administration. Kelly has long maintained Christie and others in the governor’s office knew about the scheme of political retribution at the #GWB and did nothing to stop it.

“The fact that I am on these steps in place of others from the Christie administration, and the governor himself, does not prove my guilt. It only proves that justice is not blind. It has favorites. It misses the mark. It misses the truth. And it picks winners and losers that are sometimes beyond anyone’s control.”

Lawmakers To Seek Two-Way Tolling On Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge

Some changes may be on the horizon for drivers who use the #VerrazanoBridge: you may have to pay in both directions.

On Sunday, congressional lawmakers will announce legislation to reinstate two-way tolls. Right now, only drivers heading into Staten Island from Brooklyn have to pay to cross the span. Under the proposal, drivers would not have to pay more. Instead, the current one-way toll would be split in half.
Public Records: Personal Information on New York City Voters Is Now Available for All to See

Are you registered to vote in #NYC? If so, then anyone can find out your party affiliation, full name and home address down to the apartment number — all with a few mouse clicks. The city’s Board of Elections recently posted its voter enrollment lists to its website, a massive upload of thousands of pages, covered in tiny all-caps letters, that offer a district-by-district breakdown of voters sorted by party and street name — one line for each of the 4.6 million active registered voters.

City officials said that the information was already public record, and that a new forum did not change its availability. But the move raised alarms among privacy advocates and some election experts, who said the ease of access could play into the hands of mail scammers, internet trolls and domestic violence perpetrators.
Man Withdraws $400 With Card Stolen In Williamsburg Car Break-In

Police are looking for a man who used a stolen bank card to withdraw hundreds of dollars earlier this month.

At 10:30 a.m. on April 1 a 35-year-old man came back to his car, which was parked near Skillman Avenue and Humboldt Street, to find that someone had stolen things from inside, police said.

Investigators found out that someone had taken the man's bank card out of the car around 1 a.m. The thief then used the card to withdraw $400 cash from an ATM, police said.

Police described the suspect as being in his twenties; last seen wearing a green cap and dark gray jacket.

Confirmation Of Girl Bitten On Face By Blood-Sucking 'Kissing Bug' Sparks New CDC Warning

The #KissingBug, a disease-carrying insect which is known to bite people on their mouths and faces, has made its way to the East Coast.

In July last year, a family from Kent County in #DE contacted the state’s Division of Public Health and Department of Agriculture to request assistance in identifying a bug that had bitten their child’s face.

According to the #CDC, the parents were concerned about possible disease transmission from the insect.
Rockland County executive, health commissioner to call for end to religious vaccination exemptions

#Rockland Executive #EdDay and Health Commissioner Dr. #PatriciaSchnabelRuppert are heading to #Albany Monday to advocate for an end to religious vaccine exemptions amid a growing measles outbreak in the county, according to a news release from the county. Day and Ruppert will be advocating for the passing of a New York Senate bill that would repeal all non-medical exemptions from vaccination requirements for children.

The county executive and health commissioner will be joined by the sponsors of the bill, Sen. #BradHoylman and Assemblyman #JeffreyDinowitz, as well as Rockland legislators who co-sponsor the bill as part of World Immunization Week.
Mayor de Blasio was a passenger in a car crash; the NYPD covered it up

On a Saturday morning in August 2015, Mayor #BillDeBlasio was in the back seat of a black #NYPD Chevy Tahoe bound for an event in #Harlem when a driver changing lanes slammed into his ride.

No one was hurt, but the commanding officer of the mayor’s executive protection unit, Howard Redmond, was furious. Text messages show he immediately ordered the incident be covered up to protect de Blasio’s image.

“As per CO [the commanding officer] no one is to know about this,” Sgt. Jerry Ioveno texted members of the unit, referring to Redmond. “Not even the other teams.”

“No one is to know,” he repeated.

Cops cuff YouTube streamer after suicide threats in Downtown apartment

A popular video game streamer took to #Instagram Monday to live-stream an alleged threat to kill himself in his apartment #DowntownBrooklyn.

Daniel Desmond Amofah, known online as Etika, was taken into custody for allegedly threatening to end his life inside his Willoughby Street apartment between Lawrence and Bridge streets just after 1:30 p.m., according to police, who put the street on lockdown for an hour after the unhinged live post.

Amofah went on a rambling and bigoted social media rampage, tweeting “I fear nothing,” “f--- the Jews,” — which he later deleted — “f----t” and calling himself a “god.”
