Electrical Worker 'Narrowly Escapes Death' When Power Line Unleashes Fireballs After Wild NJ Storm

#NJ: We've witnessed some fairly bonkers weather events these past few days: A Sunday that shuttled back and forth between sun and clouds before finally giving way to very loud and very windy rain by Sunday night, with gusts intense enough to warrant a fleeting tornado watch early Monday morning. The Weather sustained its touchy and tempestuous attitude all day yesterday, throwing us an impressive rainbow, sunshowers, and howling gales. It's been a bizarre moment of deep meteorological ambivalence here in #NYC, but our chaos cannot hold a candle to #NJ's. Across the Hudson River, the streets have erupted in surprise fireball chainsโ€”truly, an apocalyptic scene.

Man caught with 2 gas cans entering St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC, police say

#NY: A man was taken into custody in #NYC Wednesday night after entering St. Patrickโ€™s Cathedral carrying two canisters of gasoline, two bottles of lighter fluid and two butane lighters, authorities said. The 37-year-old man, whose identity will be released once he is formally charged, was stopped by a cathedral security officer, #NYPD said. As the man was turned around, he spilled some gasoline on the floor and walked south onto Fifth Avenue and over to 50th street. Cathedral security notified two Critical Response Command (CRC) officers-- part of a "striker team"-- outside the cathedral.
$426-A-Month Brooklyn Apartments Hit Housing Lotto

More than 140 affordable apartments, some going for as little as $426-a-month, hit the #NYC housing lottery this week, city records show.
New Yorkers have until June 17 to apply for one of 143 new apartments at Nehemiah Spring Creek, a new housing development at 475-510 Vandalia Ave. in East New York, according to a new listing on NYC Housing Connect. There are four studios, 17 one-bedrooms, 116 two-bedrooms and six three-bedrooms up for grabs for people who make between 30% and 90% of the Annual Median Income.
Cops arrest Williamsburg man suspected of murdering woman with axe

Police arrested a man they suspect of brutally murdering one woman and seriously injuring another with an axe at his Flushing Avenue apartment in the early hours of April 20.

Cops charged Jerry Brown with the murder of Savannah Rivera, the attempted murder of another woman, and criminal possession of two weapons, inside his home at Humboldt Street just before 1:30 a.m., according to authorities.

The 34-year-old allegedly killed Rivera, 20, whom police found in the living room of the eighth-floor apartment with several stab wounds and lacerations to her head and body.
Spectrum May Not Be Booted From New York After All

The Empire State's largest internet service provider may be allowed to stick around after all. #NY utilities regulators reached a settlement Friday with Charter Communications โ€” which offers internet service under the #Spectrum brand name โ€” after threatening to kick the company out of New York last summer.

The deal between Charter, the state's Department of Public Service and the Public Service Commission would require the company to expand its high-speed broadband service to 145,000 businesses and homes upstate and put $12 million toward other internet expansion efforts, officials say.

The expansion would have to be completed by September 2021 under the agreement, which is still subject to a 60-day public comment period and review by the commission, officials say.
โ #NYCASP (street cleaning) regulations are suspended on Thursday-Saturday, April 25-27, 2019 for Holy Thursday (Orthodox), Good Friday (Orthodox) and Passover (7th/8th Days). All other regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect.

Bedford Town Justice Removed From Post After DWI Charge In Mount Kisco

Jacobsen, 54, of #BedfordHills, was arrested a little after midnight on Monday, April 22, after the #Westchester County Police received a report that a silver Mercedes was being driven erratically on the Saw Mill River Parkway in #MountKisco, said police department spokesman Kieran O'Leary.

Following the report, an officer responded to that area and observed the vehicle exit the parkway and travel east on Route 133. The officer followed the vehicle on local streets, including East Main Street, and observed that the driver was unable to maintain his lane, O'Leary said. The officer made a traffic stop in front of 90 South Bedford Road. In speaking with Jacobsen, he detected an odor of alcohol on his breath and slurred speech, he added.

โ€˜Mr. Christie, you are a bully!โ€™ declares Bridget Kelly, as the former aide is again sentenced to prison for her part in Bridgegate scandal

Taking aim at her former boss, #BridgetAnneKelly angrily lashed out at Gov. #ChrisChristie Wednesday after she was re-sentenced to 13 months in federal prison for her role in the Bridgegate scandal โ€” asking how he and others in his administration escaped scrutiny.

Speaking out for the first time since her conviction, Kelly turned her fury on the governor and members of his administration. Kelly has long maintained Christie and others in the governorโ€™s office knew about the scheme of political retribution at the #GWB and did nothing to stop it.

โ€œThe fact that I am on these steps in place of others from the Christie administration, and the governor himself, does not prove my guilt. It only proves that justice is not blind. It has favorites. It misses the mark. It misses the truth. And it picks winners and losers that are sometimes beyond anyoneโ€™s control.โ€
