Reminder that Round 2 tutorial registration closes today at 5 p.m.!

(Also, missed out on mentioning this for the freshies here—another thing some would do, besides trying to limit the number of school days, is that for those in faculties with “odd”/“even” week tutorials, one may choose to split these more equally to have a more manageable week)

Reminder that if you want to drop a course, doing so by 25 August allows it to not appear on your transcript at all.

If you still need more time to consider whether you want the course, you may choose to continue on—you still have until 29 September to drop the module (but then it will show a “W” grade on your transcript to indicate that you dropped a module).

NUSSU just announced this! Have also clarified that this is still valid even with the MRT line resuming services on 1 Oct!

In case y’all missed the update from NUSSU:

1. Midterms Promo Code Expansion:
“GRABXNUSSU” for 20% off rides (capped @$5) from Wed - Sat is now expanded to cover both drop off at/pick up for the entire NUS Campus (Kent Ridge & Bukit Timah), instead of just the NUS MPSH. The promotion will also cover rides from 6am - 10pm, instead of 7am - 6pm previously.

2. GrabUnlimited For Students Promo (GUFS), Limited Slots & Limited Time for NUS Students Only.
For those with midterms past Week 7, GUFS vouchers may still be of interest. Grab is currently offering a free 3-months GrabUnlimited Students plan and other benefits: bit.ly/47JyHl9

Yours sincerely,

Due to road diversion, there are no bus services between PGP and KR MRT in both directions. A2 will pick up at PGP. BTC will skip BIZ2 and PGP.

Reminder for those looking to have a second major/minor that is “restricted” (those that need approval in order to declare it—refer to the list in the screenshot) that this is due soon (1 Dec)!

P.S. if you don’t do this, you won’t be able to declare these as your second major/minor during the normal edurec academic plan declaration period since this prior approval is needed.

Note that there are usually requirements to fulfil to even get approval, e.g. having taken certain courses (so you may not be eligible to apply now—you may want to research on this so that you can take relevant courses to be eligible to apply for approval in future). https://www.nus.edu.sg/coursereg/docs/APAD_Appln_List_of_Restricted_Programmes.pdf

Also, some other deadlines/advice:

• Sem 2 Round 2 hostel applications (easily missed bc it’s open for just a few days):
27 Nov to 3 Dec 2024
https://osa.nus.edu.sg/accommodation/hostel-application/application-guide-undergraduate/application-dates/

Noting that most halls have their own separate Master’s List process (which for most halls are likely over by now), the above deadline is likely more applicable to UTR/PGP.

• Change course of study/degree
Actually, the deadline to transfer courses is already over (ended 12 Nov). Admittedly, this deadline comes earlier than when most students would be able to decide whether they want to switch courses especially if they are in y1 sem 1. If (perhaps after finals) you decide you want to switch courses, you can try writing-in albeit it being past the deadline. The NUS office has historically allowed students to appeal for late transfer (though you should probably do so ASAP). This means an extra step and likely lower chances, though.

There will be another window to apply in Sem 2, but the above is for those who want a different course by Sem 2.

• Exam results release
Usually, these are out in late December (27 Dec for last AY).
For those who feel they didn’t manage this sem or finals well and
expect that their grades/GPA may drop, it’s probably recommended to apply for anything important before the results release (e.g. applying for summer internship using your current transcript/GPA).

Atb to those still having finals! 💪🏻💯

^^ exam results are out tmr! However, it will only be officially in your transcript at a later date — so if you’re looking to make e.g. intern applications with a better looking transcript (if you expect a drop in grades), there’s still time to make your applications before then.

Although there are officially different timings for exam results release for different faculties, you’d usually be already able to view your results on the uNivUS app (under “Exam Results”) at around 7 a.m. before those timings. All the best! 💯

Apple Online Store Holiday Sales (Closing 25 Dec)
Also, if you’re looking to give yourself a post-exam-release treat, you can check out @ThisCounted (we have shared them on here previously). In particular, there’s an exclusive deal closing on 25 Dec 🎄 for Apple purchases (includes the iPhone, not just MacBook/iPad) where you get bonus gift cards/cash with your purchase: https://t.me/ThisCounted/1179

Merry Christmas!

S/U is only open until 26 Dec 6 p.m.—but there is generally no need to S/U now. You will still be given the option to S/U your Sem 1 grades after Sem 2 (during Sem 2's S/U period). There may be a few reasons why you might consider using the S/U anyway in this semester, and all of them boil down to one reason: that there are stuff (e.g. internship, scholarship, or SEP applications) that require or look at your Sem 1 grades before the Sem 2 results/Sem 2 SU period occurs. E.g. if you are going to make an application for internship or something else in the middle or maybe even late Sem 2, it's highly likely they won't be waiting till you get your Sem 2 results before getting back to you--instead you only have your Sem 1 GPA. For some, this may provide good reason to S/U to inflate your GPA now. Consider if you are going to be applying for anything in the middle of next sem that may put you in such a situation.

Another possible reason is that you may be applying to transfer courses: in this case, it is not clear whether your post or pre-S/U GPA would be looked at.

There’s also another reason that’s not really applicable to most y1s: the Dean’s List. Majority of faculties do not let freshies on this in y1. The School of Computing is a known exception, where it is possible for y1s to be on the dean’s list. However, you may find it a bit of a gamble to S/U a grade just to be on the dean’s list: even if you SU the grade, it's not guaranteed to be on it. SOC students should check for any faculty-specific requirements (and if they look at post or pre-S/U). For various faculties, there may be requirements of a certain number of units of graded courses such that even if it is post-S/U that is looked at, you probably cannot S/U more than one course (assuming normal course load) to enter the dean’s list.

What if I don’t want to waste my S/U but need to temporarily inflate my GPA (to apply for ___)?
For whatever reason you need this for, there might be a way, though only for a limited duration. We are not suggesting this as a “loophole”—we are sharing this only assuming you have valid reasons. If the module you had a bad grade for had some sort of unfairness during the exam (e.g. there was an exam I took years ago where the internet cut off mid-way which was v disruptive), then you may request for (late) special consideration. In this wait time when your grades’ appeal is being assessed (regardless of subsequent outcome), your transcript will show ‘IP’ (in progress) for that module instead of its actual grade until the appeal is addressed. Not very sure if this is still how it works today and you should do this only if you have an actual reason, though.

When is the transcript with the recent semester’s grades available? 4 Jan! (so you can still make applications, till then, with your current transcript that won’t show the last semester’s grades)
