๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐ŸŒ Rybar touched upon very interesting topic of British neocolonialism in Africa. It says that UKโ€™s investment is focused mainly on 3 spheres which are mining, extraction of resources and financial services. Others of high importance to the region are overlooked because, I guess, there is no profit for British business.

When it comes to Africa, China has a similar approach, but there are some key differences, with the main being that the PRC invest more into infrastructure than the UK. The Asian powerhouse has invested $148 billion in infrastructure and other developments across the continent.

Of course, Chinaโ€™s activity is a subject to criticism, which comes mainly from Britain and the US. Some UKโ€™s officials say that the countries will soon learn the real price of Chinese investment which is showed through environmental breaches, corrupt practices etc.

But does Britain do any good with their investments? At least China builds roads, dams and ports, while the UK only extract resources.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ US Defense Secretary Austin says China's meeting snub unfortunate

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Thursday it was "unfortunate" his Chinese counterpart had declined to meet him at an upcoming security forum because they needed to communicate to stop dangerous encounters between military aircraft.

Austin stopped in Tokyo on his way to the annual Shangri-La Dialogue Asian security summit, which starts in Singapore on Friday.

Austin, speaking after a meeting with Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada, said he was concerned that at some point an incident like Tuesday's between a US and Chinese aircraft "could very quickly spiral out of control".

Taiwan
and the United States started talks under what is called the US-Taiwan Initiative on 21st Century Trade last August, after Washington excluded Taiwan from its larger pan-Asian trade initiative, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework.

Last month, the two sides reached agreement on the first part of their trade initiative, covering customs and border procedures, regulatory practices, and small business.

Taiwan
has donated five million dollars towards Lithuanian-led reconstructions projects in Ukraine.

The funds will be spent towards rebuilding a school in Borodianka and a kindergarden in Irpin, Central Project Management Agency said in a statement.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ต South Korea to overhaul emergency alert system after fiasco

The South Korean government
will overhaul the country's emergency alert system after an erroneous message tied to North Korea's satellite launch this week led to confusion and complaints.

The warning system will be updated to provide information such as "who, when, where, what, how and why" so as to allow a calm response from the public.

The text message sent to Seoul residents on Wednesday morning was widely criticized for being unhelpful, as it told people to prepare to evacuate without specifying where they should go and what the danger was.

๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ตโšก๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ต A NOTAM warning has been posted for airspaces near/around the Japanese islands of NAHA-SHI, MIYAKOJIMA, ISHIGAKIJIMA & YONAGUNIJIMA due to the possibility of the usage of antiballistic missiles to intercept a rocket (satellite) launched from North Korea. It is only active from May 30th to June 10th, but this could change based on when North Korea launches their second satellite rocket.

Japan deployed PAC-3 systems onto those islands and have sent Aegis-equipped destroyers on a heightened-readiness patrol there too.
