Disney has reached a settlement with federal authorities to pay a $10 million civil penalty, resolving allegations of violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
The company failed to properly designate certain videos uploaded to YouTube as "made for kids," allowing the collection of personal data from children under 13 without notifying or obtaining parental consent.
The agreement, approved by a federal court, requires Disney to implement a compliance program to ensure COPPA adherence on YouTube in the future and prohibits further violations.
