What's the difference between exchange and web3?
π¦ Exchange (Crypto Exchange)
An exchange is a platform where you can buy, sell, or trade cryptocurrencies (like Bitcoin, Ethereum, xrp, xlm, hbar etc.).
There are two main types:
Centralized Exchange (CEX)
Examples: Binance, Coinbase, Kraken.
Controlled by a company.
You must create an account and go through KYC (identity verification).
The company holds your crypto for you β meaning they control your private keys.
Easier to use but less private and less βdecentralized.β
Decentralized Exchange (DEX)
Examples: Uniswap, PancakeSwap, SushiSwap.
Runs on blockchain smart contracts (no company in charge).
You keep control of your own wallet and private keys.
Trades happen peer-to-peer directly on the blockchain.
π Web3
Web3 is the next generation of the internet built around blockchain, decentralization, and user ownership.
Itβs not just about trading β itβs a whole ecosystem that includes:
Smart contracts (self-executing programs on blockchains)
Decentralized apps (dApps) β apps that run on blockchains instead of servers
NFTs, DAOs, and DeFi platforms
Digital identity and ownership β users control their data and assets directly
Wallets like MetaMask that connect you to dApps.
