⚡JUVENILE JUSTICE GETS TOUGHER ON JUVENILE OFFENDERS⚡

Parliament finally adopted Gabriel Attal's bill to strengthen juvenile justice.

The text, voted on May 19, 2025 with 223 senators in favor and 112 against, introduces tougher measures for juvenile recidivists over the age of 16.

New features include immediate appearance for serious crimes and the reversal of the "excuse de minorité": sentences will no longer be automatically reduced unless the judge makes a reasoned decision.

Civil fines are also expected for parents who fail to respond to judicial summonses.

The law, which came into being after the 2023 riots, aims to restore the authority of the judiciary and judge juveniles more quickly.
