Dr. Mehmet Oz, President Donald Trump's pick to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, faces a confirmation hearing Friday before the Senate Finance Committee.

Oz, a doctor and former television host whose nomination to lead CMS has put him in the political spotlight for the first time since his unsuccessful bid for a U.S. Senate seat three years ago, is expected to have to deal with tough questions from Democrats on the 27-member committee, which will vote whether to move his nomination to a floor vote in front of the entire Senate.

Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren, in particular, has been increasingly vocal ahead of the hearing about Oz's financial ties to health care companies that he will now oversee in his role at CMS and his past comments about privatizing Medicare, one of the programs he'll manage.

She also criticized what she calls his "hostile record" on abortion rights, referring to Oz's comments on the campaign trail that a woman's decision to get an abortion should be made by her, her doctor and "local political leaders."

Hamas agreed Friday to release Edan Alexander, the last living American hostage in captivity in the Gaza Strip.

Alexander, a 21-year-old Israeli-American, will be released along with the bodies of four other hostages, according to a deal offered by mediators.

Though he spent most of his life in New Jersey, Alexander was born in Israel a few months before his parents moved to the U.S., according to the American Jewish Committee (AJC).

After graduating from high school, Alexander decided he would enlist in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) rather than enroll in college.

Johns Hopkins University on Thursday announced that it will be firing close to 2,000 workers globally, after it lost over $800 million in federal U.S. funding.

The workforce reduction comes after Secretary of State Marco Rubio cut 83% of programs at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on Monday. He also pulled 5,200 contracts that he claimed saved the U.S. tens of billions of dollars.

A spokesperson for the school told The Hill that most of the staff who will be laid off are workers in other countries, but that over 200 U.S. workers will be impacted by the cuts.

"The termination of more than $800 million in funding is now forcing us to wind down critical work here in Baltimore and internationally,” the spokesperson said. β€œWe can confirm that the elimination of foreign aid funding has led to the loss of 1,975 positions in 44 countries internationally and 247 in the United States."

The spokesperson added that another 29 international workers and 78 U.S. employees will be "furloughed with a reduced scheduled." It is not clear when the terminations will take place.

Warren Buffett is likely selling his real estate empire - the latest warning sign that the property market is in dire straits.

The real estate market has been on the skids in recent years. Brokerage companies have attempted to consolidate as home sales remain very low.

Compass, the largest real estate brokerage in the country, is in advanced talks to acquire Berkshire Hathaway’s HomeServices of America, the fourth-biggest player in the industry, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Buffett, the 94-year-old investment icon known as the β€˜Oracle of Omaha,’ appears to be stepping back from the real estate game.

The financial details of the potential acquisition haven’t been disclosed, but sources say an agreement is close, barring any last-minute snags.

If the deal goes through, it would mark another major consolidation in a housing market already struggling with sluggish sales.

This is what communism looks like. These lefties (not democrats) are aligned with a marxist ideology and do whatever they’re told to do. They have zero ability to critically think or speak for themselves. And until good people run against them, they will fester like an open sore and drive America into the dustbin of history.
