Officer Evan Dunn was killed last week in a crash involving a DUI driver. On Wednesday, his family and community honored him at his precession and memorial service.

Today, we celebrate Lieutenant Lai Lai Bui and her expansive 32-year career with the Sacramento Police Department! Lieutenant Bui began her journey in December 1992, as a Student Trainee and steadily rose through the ranks—serving as a Police Officer, Sergeant, and finally Lieutenant in 2022.

Throughout her career, Lieutenant Bui has worked in a myriad of assignments, making lasting impacts in all of them including, Problem Oriented Policing, Bikes, Crime Analysis, Investigations, Homeland Security, and many more. Her dedication earned her multiple Unit Citations (2005, 2008, 2019, and 2020) and Employee of the Quarter Awards (2003 and 2020).

Lieutenant Bui has made an inspiring impact in the community by serving on the Governor appointed POST Commission from 2005-2022, earning the My Sister’s House Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award, and an Excellence in Law Enforcement Award from the CA Asian & Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus in 2007.

Thank you, Lieutenant Bui, for your profound dedication and service to our community. We wish you all the best in your retirement. Congratulations!
