Police recover firearms, elephant tusk and apprehend four suspects

On 29 August 2023, the police in Alexandra arrested four suspects after they were found in possession of firearms, elephant tusk and a large quantity of meat stolen from a hijacked truck.

It is reported that on 30 August 2023, the members of Alexandra Crime Prevention assisted by JMPD officers and private security officers followed up on information about a hijacked truck delivering meat.

The information led the members to 7th Avenue in Alexandra where upon searching they recovered five firearms, a toy gun, 111 rounds of live ammunition, magazines, blue lights, signal jammers and an elephant tusk including the meat that was reportedly stolen from the hijacked truck.

The four suspects are expected to appear before Magiatrates’ Court soon on charges of possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
