Lucky Jim is a novel by Kingsley Amis.

first published in 1954 by Victor Gollancz.

It was Amis's first novel and won the 1955 Somerset Maugham Award for fiction.

The novel follows the exploits of the eponymous James (Jim) Dixon, a reluctant lecturer at an unnamed provincial English university.

A junior lecturer at a provincial university decides to shake up the old guard with a campaign of deliberate disruption.

The junior history tutor is appalled and disillusioned by the pomposity that surrounds him and begins to challenge his situation with unruly antics during a colleague's party and at a solemn school ceremony.

Lucky Jim was adopted as comedy film in 1957 by British director John Boulting and starring Ian Carmichael, Terry-Thomas and Hugh Griffith.
