The NEAR Infrastructure Committee just published a request for proposal (RFP) to build a Chain-Abstracted Relayer infrastructure, marking a significant step toward solving gas abstraction across multi chains.
The goal: a self-service platform where devs can sponsor gas or let users pay gas deposits in ETH, SOL, USDT, USDC and more, across multiple chains.

NEAR introduces optimistic blocks, offering world-leading speed and finality, both of which are prerequisites for real-time AI execution and seamless UX across chains. The latest update reduces latency by 2x by allowing shards to act optimistically without waiting for block arrival.
βBlink and itβs finalβ isnβt an exaggeration: in the time it takes to blink, your NEAR transaction can finalize on-chain.
While many networks promise fast speeds, NEAR delivers proven numbers on mainnet:
β¦ 600-Millisecond Block Time: The time it takes for NEAR to produce a new block has been dramatically reduced, setting a new standard for high-performance blockchains.
β¦ 1.2-Second Finality: Finality (i.e., the time required for a transaction to become irreversible) is now 1.2 seconds, which is 10x faster than Solana and over 600x faster than Ethereum and L2s.
NEAR is expected to get even shorter block times, approximately 200 milliseconds - by the end of 2025.

WARNING! Pin Rust version to 1.86 for your smart contracts.
Rust 1.87 introduced new Wasm features (bulk-memory) that are not supported by nearcore Wasm VM. There is no workaround for this and we are waiting for nearcore support for the new features
