Like many Lovecraftian gods, Yog-Sothoth has many different appearances throughout the various stories of the Mythos, by various authors. However, there seems to be a common agreement that Yog-Sothoth visually manifests as a mass of glowing orbs, with eyes or tendrils in some versions, and in others simply the orbs. It is heavily implied that Yog-Sothoth is omniscient, and is locked outside the universe, meaning he knows and see all of space-time all at once, which means there is no secret hidden from Yog-Sothoth.

Agares is described in grimoires such as the Livre des Esperitz (as Agarat), the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, the Lesser Key of Solomon, and the Dictionnaire Infernal as a duke "under the power of the east," an "old man, riding upon a crocodile, and carrying a hawk on his fist," who teaches languages, stops and retrieves runaway persons, causes earthquakes, and grants noble titles.

One of his epithets is the "Evil Genius of the Household" meaning that Alastor is the demon that conducts the most heinous, depraved, and unbearably cruel tortures in the pits of Hell. Alastor is likened to Nemesis and the destroying angel and is known as The Executioner.
