In Sámi shamanism, the noaidi (Sami Shaman) used the drum to get into a trance, or to obtain information from the future, or other realms. The drum was held in one hand, and beaten with the other. While the noaidi was in trance, his "free spirit" was said to leave his body to visit the spirit-world.
The patterns on the drum membrane reflect the worldview of the owner and his family.

Tulzscha appears as a blazing green ball of flame, dancing with its Lesser Outer Gods at the court of Azathoth. When summoned to the world of men, it manifests in a gaseous form, penetrating the planet to the core, then erupting from below as a pillar of flame. It is unable to move from the point at which it emerges.
