EID Al-ADHA β’ FESTIVAL OF SACRIFICE π
Eid al-Adha, also known as the "Festival of Sacrifice," is an important Islamic holiday that commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. However, before he could do so, God provided a ram to sacrifice instead. Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and it is celebrated by Muslims around the world through prayer, charitable acts, and the sacrifice of an animal, such as a sheep, goat, cow, or camel. The meat from the sacrificed animal is then distributed among family, friends, and the less fortunate.
