TRIESTE, UPDATE. People are still there. A number of port workers remain on strike until the 20th October, which was always the end date of the agreed official strike. Then presumably nothing will come out of the meeting in Rome on the 30th and they will start again shortly after.

Technicalities of a strike as far as I understand them. Applies to the blockade of a port too. 🚢🏗
1 The workers who want to keep on working need to be allowed by the people striking to do so in order for the strike to be legal
2 This means that the people calling the strike can't stop ALL operations of a port unless they all agree on the strike
3 This means they depend on third parties who are not port workers to blockade the port, for example truck drivers queued up outside the port
4 This explains why the port workers called for support from those outside the port
5 I don't think the port workers can officially say to third parties: blockade our port, because if they do the strike becomes illegal
6 Therefore there needs to be unofficial and unspoken support by independent truck drivers and port workers for a blockade to be effective
7 The truck drivers should not issue an official statement either if they are preventing other truck drivers from entering the port
8 The truck drivers can simply say there is a delay in entering the port due to slow loading times
9 Understanding all of this is essential to keeping a port working at very reduced capacity while keeping it all legal, meaning any intervention by law enforcers becomes illegal
10 Follow steps 1-9 for a legal unspoken port blockade in your country too, don't leave it to other people to do so. Talk about and share this option.
