💢 How should the world respond to Putin's threats of nuclear war vis-a-vis Ukraine?

👉 First, Putin didn’t say any threats about using nuclear weapons in Ukraine. These threats were invented by Western media that transformed subtle hints in his speech into direct and blatant threat.

👉 Second, according to statements by U.S. officials, any use of tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine will result in conventional attack of NATO on Russia (like “destruction of Russian Black Sea Navy”).

💢 Such attack would automatically trigger use of strategical nuclear weapons against NATO.

Rationally, Russia won’t use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine (and if faced with an existential threat, will start with strategical nuclear weapons).

👉 Third, tactical nuclear weapons are not the best way to destroy armies, they are aimed to instill fear in their victims and eliminate stationary targets.

💢 Armies are spread over hundreds of kilometers and using tactical nukes against smaller groups is like using steam hammer to crack nuts. The order to spare civilians and civilian infrastructure hasn’t been rescinded by Russian high command,

👉 Fourth, use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine near Russian border or at territories claimed by Russia essentially means radioactive contamination of Russian territoy or claimed territory in the former Ukraine.

💢 Judging by the statements and debates in the European Parliament today several new narratives have emerged and will be pushed this winter;

1. The EU political class has acknowledged that massive civil unrest is likely.

2. That any of this civil unrest, particularly that in response to economic precarity, is the fault of Russian propaganda.

3. To try and avoid this civil unrest a mass censorship regime of anyone deemed a "Russian propagandist" must be implemented.

4. That the EU takes no blame for the crippling of the European economy and any suggestion that European sanctions hurt the nations of Europe is Russian propaganda.

5. That all of this, to quote German politican Rainer Wieland, is necessary to "protect our democracies".
