It was expected that they’ll fail in Kherson, as we said many times, Kherson is a suicide mission.

But Kharkov is a different story. The terrain is different. More trees to cover up your troops, conceal movement, it’s an entirely different area. If you have more personnel than your enemy, and you develop a decent half-assed tactic, you’ll likely get the enemy to withdraw from their positions because a terrain like that is just very difficult to defend. 

Russians need aviation, loads of aviation. Big boy bombs and small tactical units to counter attack, drones. Preferably Night ops, taking advantage of the terrain. Coordinated directional teams & air support. Artillery alone won’t win this area. Artillery will sure help, but it’ll take ages.

To Ukraine’s detriment, they have gotten too close to the Russian borders. Russia can throw a lot of stuff at them from their mainland territory and there’s nothing Ukraine can do about it. They’ll likely get bombed to oblivion, at stand off distances.
