The US does not believe in Ukraine's ability to return all its territories, CNN writes, citing a survey of White House officials.
Even with heavier and more advanced US weapons which they plan to supply to Kiev, the publication clarifies.
Biden's advisers began an internal discussion about how Zelensky should change his definition of Ukrainian "victory", adjusted for the possibility of irreversible reduction of his country.
"The mood has changed a lot over the past few weeks, as Ukraine struggled to repel Russia's offensive in the Donbass and suffered staggering losses in troops... Ukrainian forces are also burning their equipment and ammunition faster than the West can provide them."

💢 Military theorist Martin van Creveld named five reasons why Russia is winning the conflict in Ukraine. Die Welt published an analysis:
- There is no partisan movement in Ukraine. Kiev asks the West for weapons for ordinary military operations, and this "can only be a recipe for defeat";
- the Russians changed tactics: they switched to their traditionally most powerful weapon - a massive artillery deployment;
- the Ukrainian army has poor military-technical supplies, and the terrain in the region is favorable for the air power of the Russian Federation;
— Russia proved to be economically more resilient than the West expected: gold reserves are growing, and the ruble has reached a seven-year high against the dollar;
- The economic consequences of the crisis for the West are more serious than expected.
Van Creveld added that the confiscation of the property of Russian oligarchs in Europe undermines confidence in the Western legal system.
